About LIFTS Driver:
Performs work of routine difficulty in operating a van or bus for the purpose of transporting elderly, people with disabilities, and other passengers. Assists passengers on and off the vehicles. Work is performed under general supervision. Knows the County’s Customer-Centered Culture principles, the County’s Mission, Strategic Plan and Core Values and demonstrates a commitment to customer satisfaction for all customers on a regular basis.
Valid State of Iowa Commercial Driver's License Class C with air brake and passenger endorsements required within six (6) months of hire or transfer into the position. Completion of the following training courses required within one (1) year of employment: First Aid, CPR, National Safety Driving Council Defensive Driving, Passenger Assistance Techniques, Fire Extinguishers, Behavior Management, and Civil Defense Procedures. Must pass a County physical examination which includes a drug test after offer of employment, with random testing as determined by the County. Regular work attendance required. Must remain awake and aware of surroundings at all times.Monday - Friday

About LIFTS Driver:
Performs work of routine difficulty in operating a van or bus for the purpose of transporting elderly, people with disabilities, and other passengers. Assists passengers on and off the vehicles. Work is performed under general supervision. - Drives a van or bus on a demand activated or regular route transit system.
- Assists passengers in boarding and leaving vehicles, including pushing passengers of all sizes using wheelchairs and semi-ambulatory passengers’ door-to-door.
- Performs servicing and minor repairs of automotive equipment.
- Assists passengers with transporting personal possessions such as packages or groceries.
- Secures passengers using wheel chairs and operates wheelchair lift.
- Maintains two-way radio communication with Dispatch Office.
- Collects and records fares.
- Records ridership and vehicle maintenance condition, including fuel and lubricants used.
- Assists in area evacuations, under Emergency Management command.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
- Knows the products they personally produce and the customers of each product. Listens to the “Voice of the Customer “and closes gaps between customer expectations and experience whenever possible.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- One (1) year of experience in paid driving, customer service, or human services. Experience driving trucks/vans/buses strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of traffic rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of the geographic areas of Linn County, especially the streets in the Cedar Rapids metro area.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Ability to deal courteously with passengers and the public.
- Ability to read street and road maps and to perform basic arithmetic calculations. Physical strength and skill to carry parcels, assist wheelchairs of all sizes up ramps and single steps and transfer passengers from wheelchairs to other seating.
- Experience in assisting individuals with disabilities in a close environment preferred. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with daily changes.
- Ability to use technology to assist in schedule performance.
- Skills in operating vans or buses safely on urban streets and rural roads.
