Linn Legal is a transactional law firm. We describe our work as “helping people who like each other to exchange money and property.” We do not engage in adversarial litigation. When a client is suing or being sued, we refer that work to allied firms that provide litigators.

Our goal is helping clients through a transaction, from beginning to end. This can be the sale of a business, the purchase of real estate, or an entire probate administration. We advise on the structure of the deal, deadlines, and how to get the most out of it.

We emphasize a supportive and growth-oriented environment, where new hires receive extensive on-the-job training from the managing attorney. Throwing an associate into the deep end is a foolish way to encourage professional development, so we do not do it. You will not be given duds and scraps that other team members refuse. We value coachability and a commitment to continuous learning. This includes weekly and monthly CLE courses and a robust internal library of books and documents to help get up to speed quickly. We also maintain a private firm-specific Wikipedia website to document our processes.

The Firm does not bill clients based on hours worked, but operates on flat-rate fees agreed ahead of time. No attorney is expected to maintain a regular timesheet or prepare invoices at the end of the month.

Our office is located in Pleasant Ridge in Cincinnati. The neighborhood has a small-town feel, while still being ten minutes from the Courthouse. We have a good reputation with our neighbors and you will frequently have the honor of helping them.

The Problems You Will Solve:

As an Associate Attorney in our transactional practice, you will play a vital role in helping our clients navigate complex legal matters. You will provide both lead counsel and support in areas such as:

• Estate planning and probate administration
• Real estate transactions
• Business governance and succession planning

You will be responsible for meeting with clients, drafting essential legal documents, reviewing contracts, and conducting legal research. A significant part of your work will involve frequent interaction with the Hamilton County Probate Court. You will be expected to manage a variety of cases and embrace diverse assignments. At the same time, you will not be responsible for keeping timesheets or tracking down clients to pay bills. Our firm has the client’s money committed before you begin work, so you can focus on your work instead of chasing down bills and getting clients to pay.

We have plenty of work; that is why we are hiring. You are not expected to bring in a book of business or generate your own work at the start (although it certainly helps!). You are expected to diligently work.

You will have frequent contact with clients and court personnel and you will directly manage cases.

The Team You Will Work With:

You will be working closely with the managing attorney and other members of the Linn Legal team. You will learn our firm’s way of working and you will also receive extensive training. Since our firm does not operate on a billable hour model, there is no tension between an hour spent on training taking away from an hour that could be spent billing to hit a billing goal. You will receive mentorship and guidance to develop your legal skills and expertise.

In addition to the managing attorney and support staff, you will meet the ecosystem of allied professionals that we engage in helping our clients. These include tax lawyers, litigators, auctioneers, plumbers, electricians and more. All of them are valued for their maturity and professionalism that they show our staff and clients.

About You:

We are seeking a well-mannered and intelligent individual with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn.

We believe you will be successful in this role if you have:

• 0-2 years of experience
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and active Ohio law license
• Strong ability to work on task lists and get work over the finish line.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Emotional maturity and professionalism.
• Proficiency in using electronic calendar systems, Excel, and drafting software
• A drive to get better at what you are doing.
• An ability to be present at our office in Cincinnati four days a week during business hours (required)
• Excellent word-processing skills; you should be able to make polished documents, ready to file, without editorial review.
• Excellent phone skills, whether talking to new clients who have a lot on their mind or calling courts for specific answers to technical questions

Salary:

Linn Legal’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary for lawyers with the required experience and includes full company-paid health insurance from your first day. Our minimum cash compensation for this role is $60,000, with a no-nonsense quarterly bonus structure based on billed, collected, and completed work, with associates keeping 50% of fees billed after meeting a quarterly threshold. Our goal is to provide great pay to great producers. Final offers may vary from the amount listed based on candidate experience and expertise.
