CONMED is seeking an R&D Engineering Intern to join our R&D Sports Medicine team in Summer 2025. The R&D Sports Medicine group is dedicated to innovating and improving procedural solutions for Hip, Knee, Shoulder, and Extremities surgeons. Developing safe, simple-to-use, and effective products helps patients return to their normal everyday lives. As an intern, you will support project teams by completing hands-on development and prototyping, while applying good documentation practices. You will have opportunities to develop test methods that analyze failure modes of your designs, while challenging your prototype’s functionality in cadaveric settings. Through collaboration with your engineering design team, surgeons, machinists, and the quality team, this internship will develop your engineering skills and principles focused on product development and design improvements. Responsibilities: Help define product user needs by collaborating with surgeons and other engineering team members Design products, components, and equipment using CAD Software (SolidWorks) Fabricate prototypes using 3D printing and/or collaboration with machinists and vendors Develop design documents including test protocols, reports, and design drawings. Conduct range finding testing and facilitate verification activities Present product prototype ideas, test data, project status, and technical specifications to team members and management Position Requirements: Pursuing completion of a bachelors or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or another closely related field Must be available to work onsite in Largo, Florida, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, May 19 – August 8, 2025 This position is not eligible for employer-visa sponsorship.
