About the roleAs the Head of Engineering at Anthropic, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our engineering organization and contributing to our mission of developing safe and ethical AI. Reporting directly to the CPO, you will lead a rapidly growing team with plans to continue to expand in size over the coming year. This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of AI development while balancing the challenges of maintaining high-velocity product delivery with our commitment to AI safety.Responsibilities : Recruit, manage, and develop senior engineering managers to oversee all product development initiativesCollaborate with senior Individual Contributors (ICs) and Engineering Managers (EMs) to establish and refine excellent engineering practices, from hiring to execution and iterationServe as a public face for Anthropic's engineering brand, representing the company at industry events and in the tech communityCollaborate with our cloud partners, Amazon and Google, to ensure Anthropic models are performant and availableOversee all of Anthropic's applications, APIs, and developer experiencesWork closely with product management leads to ensure alignment between engineering and product goalsLead org-wide hiring efforts to support the team's growth while maintaining a high bar for talentImplement performance management processes to support the team's development and address any challengesSpearhead initiatives to adopt Claude to accelerate our own engineering team's productivityBalance Anthropic's mission of building safe AI with the need to maintain a high velocity of shipping productsContribute to the overall technical strategy of the companyMeaningfully invest in a culture of belonging, equity, and impactYou may be a good fit if you have : 9 years of experience as an engineering leader, including experience as a VP or equivalent role, overseeing user-facing product engineering and platform / infrastructure engineering organizationsA proven track record of scaling and shaping large (100 ) engineering organizationsThe ability to operate at both a strategic level and dive into technical details when necessaryExperience managing and developing engineering directors, managers, and senior ICsStrong technical acumen and the ability to guide architectural decisionsExcellent communication skills, a commitment to transparency, and the ability to be a public-facing representative for Anthropic's engineering effortsA deep alignment with Anthropic's mission and a passion for ethical AI developmentExperience working in fast-paced, high-growth environmentsProven investment in taking an inclusive, equitable approach to hiring and team-buildingDemonstrated success in managing relationships with cross-functional stakeholders, executives, and external partnersThe ability to balance long-term strategic thinking with day-to-day operational excellenceStrong candidates may have : A background in building developer-facing products or APIsKnowledge of best practices in AI safety and ethical AI developmentExperience leading engineering teams in a research-heavy environmentA track record of successful public speaking or technical writingExperience implementing engineering productivity tools and processesA history of contributing to open-source projects or fostering open-source communitiesFamiliarity with the unique challenges of AI product development and deploymentDeadline to apply : None.
