Job Description
Job Summary:
Assists with the administration, staffing, recruitment, clinical compliance, resident focus and educational in-service meetings for the Nursing department. Maintains compliance of federal, state and local rules, regulations and laws.
This is a temporary position, lasting 3 - 6 months.
Duties:
- Assists DON in development and management of nursing services to ensure quality and safety of resident care.
- Assumes overall responsibility for nursing services in absence of DON.
- Makes daily rounds to supervise the quality of resident care and obtain effective utilization of staff.
- Handles nursing administrative duties as delegated by DON.
- Assists in the review and revision of nursing department policies and procedures.
- Assists in management of both professional and non-professional nursing staff.
- Assists with counseling and discipline of staff.
- Evaluates and documents performance of professional nursing staff on an annual basis.
- Detects noncompliance with applicable policies, procedures and legal requirements and instructs subordinates to ensure compliance.
- Supports and replaces Unit Managers, Nursing Supervisors or floor nurses when needed.
- Reviews nursing documentation, nursing care plans and medication records for content and accuracy according to established guidelines.
- Evaluates resident care as related to individual resident needs, family involvement and physician’s care plan for resident.
- Supports and assists MDS Coordinators as needed.
- Maintains accurate records and reports required for nursing department.
- Assists in ensuring nursing service compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Makes appropriate recommendations for nursing actions to be implemented as needed.
- Ensures completion and maintenance of required Medicare and Medicaid assessments and documentation.
- Serves on appropriate committees and attends committee meetings as necessary.
- Assists in determination of appropriate level of care, based on physician’s recommendations and plan of care.
- Maintains staffing patterns to ensure adequate staffing levels and quality resident care.
- Responsible for adherence to infection control policy and procedures.
- Monitors and ensures smooth coordination of admission/transfers/discharges with other departments.
- Works cooperatively with administration, nursing staff, all other department
- Maintains on-call availability as scheduled.
- Ability to continue education in field of nursing through attendance at meetings, conferences, workshops, reading current literature and maintaining membership in professional organizations.
Team Leader for staff education and In-services:
- Tracks employee in-services for all departments; issues reminders prior to deadlines; informs supervisors of employees who are late or lagging.
- Responsible for ensuring employee compliance with Relias Education.
- Plans and implements in-services for the nursing staff and posts calendar with topics monthly.
- Presents nursing educational topics during employee new hire orientation.
- Manages the new hire orientation process and follows up with new hires during the orientation process to uncover any problems, to ensure a smooth start and employee retention.
Language Skills:
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Qualifications:
- Current RN license, BSN is preferred.
- Computer literate, including Word and Excel
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Able to work with minimal supervision and guidance.
- 3 years of Supervisory/Administrative position in Long-term Care is preferred.
