The Accountant is responsible for managing and analyzing financial data to ensure accurate reporting and compliance with regulatory standards. This role involves maintaining financial records, preparing financial reports, and assisting with budget preparation. The Accountant collaborates with finance team members to support overall financial health and provide insights into financial performance, contributing to sound decision-making across the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Assist in the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely completion.
- Maintain general ledger accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and potential areas of improvement.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- Process and verify invoices, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Reconcile accounts payable and receivable to maintain accurate records of payments and collections.
- Monitor outstanding balances and follow up on overdue accounts as necessary.
- Assist in managing the billing process and resolve discrepancies with vendors or clients.
Budgeting and Forecasting
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts, providing data and analysis to support strategic planning.
- Monitor actual financial performance against budgets, identifying variances and recommending adjustments.
- Collaborate with department heads to manage budget-related inquiries and support cost control efforts.
Compliance and Audit Support
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Prepare documents and assist in audits by gathering data and providing detailed explanations of transactions and processes.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure data accuracy.
- Maintain and update financial policies and procedures in accordance with current standards.
Tax Preparation and Filing
- Prepare and file sales, property, and other tax returns in compliance with applicable laws.
- Assist with corporate tax return preparation by compiling financial data and supporting documentation.
- Monitor tax law changes to ensure compliance and identify potential tax-saving opportunities.
Other Administrative Functions
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analysis as requested by management.
- Manage documentation and filing of financial records, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Support accounting software updates and other system improvements by testing and providing feedback.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- CPA or CMA certification is preferred but not required.
- Accounting experience preferred, preferably in corporate or public accounting.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in managing financial data.
