What are the responsibilities and job description for the Athletics Groundskeeping Assistant - University Athletics position at Lipscomb University?
Work in helping to maintain all athletics facilities in a game ready/practice ready/guest ready manner. Includes work on all fields and helping with setup, take-down, cleanup or movement of equipment, materials, storage items in any other athletics-related areas, as needed.
Work outdoors throughout the year to maintain all facilities in the athletics environment in a safe, efficient, ecological, economical manner.
Extensive night and weekend work during school year may be required based on Athletic events/competitions and facility needs.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge in maintenance of Baseball, Softball and Soccer Fields.
- Must be able to complete any required OSHA training.
- Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities including, pushing, pulling, lifting, kneeling, reaching, etc.
- Must be able to read, write, and understand English.
- Must be a self-starter and able to follow instructions without constant supervision.
- Must possess a valid TN drivers license with an acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, etc.)
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
- Must have a strong work ethic.
- Must be available to work, as needed, on nights or weekends.
- Any additional certifications or work-related training is considered a plus.
Typical Duties:
- Assist in overall outdoor athletics facilities field preparation for practice and games to include mowing, painting of fields and other facility preparation.
- Assist in all practice and game day set up on outside at all fields.
- Assist, when needed, to complete event tear-down of athletic events.
- Assist in grass/turf, tree, shrub, maintenance around athletic facilities.
- Maintain safe operation of a push/riding mower, string trimmer, utility cart, and road vehicles.
- Pick up litter and debris, inside and outside facilities
- Perform tasks such as watering, weeding beds, sweeping, digging, raking, maintaining irrigation system, snow removal.
- Responsible for repairs across facilities – either making repairs or contacting those who can do so.
- Assist in retrieval and distribution of mail when a part time employee cannot do so.
- Make recommendations for repairs, purchases, and work orders as necessary to assist with short and long-term planning.
- Recommends policies and procedures to improve efficiency of operations for Athletics Grounds Maintenance.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
