What are the responsibilities and job description for the Terminal Clerk / Dispatcher position at Liquid Transport?
Liquid Transport has an immediate opening for a Terminal Clerk/Dispatcher at the North Charleston, South Carolina terminal.
The Terminal Clerk/Dispatcher is responsible for supporting the administrative functions at the terminal, at the direction of the Terminal Manager. In addition, will be responsible for supporting the dispatchers based at this facility by assuming various basic-level dispatch responsibilities, again at the discretion of the Terminal Manager.
RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE TERMINAL CLERK / DISPATCHER
Administrative Support
- Review driver paperwork and trip documentation for accuracy and completeness, preparing it for forwarding to the administrative office. This includes verifying driver qualifiers, mileage and hours entries, and descriptions of delays for detention billing.
- Perform driver log check entries and monitor electronic logs (e-logs).
- Administer and document petty cash disbursements and replenishments.
- Prepare purchase orders and match invoices to related purchase order numbers. If applicable, pick up parts for the shop as needed.
- Maintain inventory of office supplies and replenish as necessary.
- Scan, type, distribute correspondence, and file documents as needed.
Record Keeping and Compliance
- Track and record driver attendance.
- Monitor driver physical and drug test requirements furnished by the corporate safety department and remind dispatch of upcoming deadlines.
- Maintain terminal files for MSDS, vehicle maintenance, and vehicle inspections.
- Update on-time pickup and delivery records as required.
Customer Service
- Handle customer service inquiries and requests, responding timely and professionally.
- Prepare and generate customer-requested reports.
Dispatch Support
- Take check calls from drivers and relay dispatch information as assigned.
- Assist the main dispatcher in record-keeping and data entry.
- Assume dispatch and supervision responsibilities for a small fleet (5–8 drivers).
- Support dispatch and customer service functions in the absence of the main dispatcher.
Facility Maintenance
- Maintain general office and shop cleanliness.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE TERMINAL CLERK / DISPATCHER
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in trucking or transportation industry preferred, preferably in dispatch.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in data entry, spreadsheets, word processing software, typing, filing, operating a calculator. Additional advanced formal training in clerical/basic computer skills helpful.
SCHEDULE OF THE TERMINAL CLERK / DISPATCHER
- Monday through Friday – 8am to 4:30pm
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
