Position Purpose
- Under the general supervision of the School Principal, to maximize the learning experience of students with special needs, in academics, interpersonal skills and activities of daily living by implementing district approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities, outcomes; addressing students' specific needs; providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
WORKING RELATIONSHIP:
- Communicates proficiency in wring and oral communication
- Supports and assists the Special Education Teacher on implementing classroom lesson plans, modifications, and accommodations as needed in the appropriate learning environment
- Communicate concerns and issues directly to the Special Education Teacher to appropriately inform parents/guardians
Consults with:
Special Education Teacher, classroom teacher, and students, under the supervision and direction of the special education teacher
JOB SUMMARY: The paraprofessional provides assistance both to teachers and students in learning lesson plans. They may also work in specialized programs or on an individual basis with students requiring close supervision and special assistance.
The paraprofessional provides support, explanation, re-teaching.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma required
- Successful prior special education experience as teacher, aide, or paraprofessional experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Guides and works through lesson plans with students, explains and interprets assignments
- Assists teacher with English, Life Skills, Social Skills, Science, and Math classes taught.
- Monitors behavior of students for appropriateness and need for discipline.
- Assist with bathroom breaks which may include personal care
- Recommends ideas, identifies problems, or assists in problem solving at meetings with teacher.
- Assists with in supervision during mealtime
- Maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Demonstrates proficiency in communication with students and colleagues
- Provides Supports to students in mainstream classrooms.
- Monitor students during recess outside.
- Assists the Special Education Teacher in compliance of the students’ individual education plan;
- Collects data when providing supplemental supports to students in various learning environments
Additional Duties
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.
