What are the responsibilities and job description for the No Name Teen Camp Summer Counselor position at Lisle Park District?
General Description: Organizes and provides support and leadership for campers at our teen aged camp, where the primary program emphasis is on providing constructive use of summer vacation, developing leadership skills, and enhancing social development of individual campers. Under the supervision of the Recreation Manager - Camps and Special Events , the Teen Camp Counselor is primarily responsible for planning activities, chaperoning & driving for all trips and the safety of all participants.
- Staff Training: Tuesday May 27th-Friday May 30th
- Camp Dates: June 3rd-August 9th (no camp on 7/4) (10 weeks)
- 40 hours per week
- Regular Camp Hours: Monday-Friday 9am-5pm
- Extended Hours (7:15am-9am and 5pm-6pm)
- Starting pay range $15.50-$16.50 per hour based on qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Preferred 2 years of camp counselor experience or equivalent
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs
- Must have Valid Illinois Driver’s License with excellent driving record
- Interviews will be scheduled for March & April
- Number of staff needed will be based on number of returning staff.
No Name Teen Camp Job Responsibilities
- Programming
- Recommend, develop and administer daily camp programs providing campers an opportunity for growth
- Plan daily activities
- Supervision
- Be accountable for the whereabouts and safety of all campers and staff at all times
- Responsible for safety of each participant including yourself and report any safety issues immediately to supervisor
- Monitor behavior issues
- Fill out necessary accident/incident and behavior reports
- Administration
- Perform administrative record keeping including attendance, sign-in/out sheets and accident/incident and behavior reports
- Responsible for Park District provided cell phone
- Report any problems to the Recreation Manager - Camps and Special Events
- Public Relations
- Act in a professional manner at all times
- Introduce yourself to parents each week
- Greet each parent and camper daily by name
- Interpret agency and camp policies and programs to staff, campers and parents
- Maintain contact with parents regarding camper problems or situations
- Health and Safety
- Administer first aid when necessary to campers and staff
- Monitor camper and staff health and safety practices
- Maintain first aid supplies & implement camp safety standards
- Successfully complete first aid and CPR training before the start of camp
- Supplies/Equipment/Facilities
- Responsible for maintenance, use, conservation and inventory of camp equipment, supplies, facilities and vehicles
- Supervise and assist with clean up of camp
- Submit requests for needed supplies to Head Counselor
- Transportation
- Complete all PDRMA transportation trainings
- Transport campers in 15 passenger van or mini vans when needed
- Monitor mileage and gas use
- Fill gas tank when necessary
- Drive safely and obey the rules of the road at all times
- General
- Follow camp procedures and policies at all times
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Lead and participate in camper activities and sports both indoors and outdoors.
