Job Title: Custodian
Reports to: Head Supervisor
Dept.: Operational Services
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Purpose:
Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
· High School Diploma or GED Preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
· Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures
· Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance
· Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment
· Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies
· One year experience in custodial services (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Maintains a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, walls, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment and restrooms.
- Keeps school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots and play areas neat and clean.
- Complies with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
- Assists in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and orders additional supplies as needed.
- Assists with lunchroom set up, including arranging tables and chairs.
- Performs preventive maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students and staff.
- Makes minor building repairs as needed and reports major repair needs to building administrator.
- Moves furniture or equipment within building as directed by building administrator.
- Assists in setting up facilities for special events.
- Assists with opening and closing building each school day.
- Follows established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.
- Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
- Inspects machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Operates tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work area and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Complies with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule and board policy.
- Complies with all district and campus routines and regulations.
- Maintains confidentiality.
- Requires flexibility and understanding that all maintenance staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the mission and goals of the Facility Operations.
- Other duties as assigned.
