We are looking for early childhood music teachers.
Teach 2-4 weekly classes. The classes are 40 minutes and follow the Little Folkies lesson plan template. There's 15-17 songs per session, Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. The teacher plays guitar and leads the class in fingerplay, handmovement dance, and a big instrument jam on wooden kids instruments at the end of class with 10-15 young children and their parent or caregiver.
Are you passionate about folk music and kids? Do you play a steady boom chuck pattern on the guitar and C, G, F, A, D, E (plus a few more) and sing in tune with ease and have a pleasant voice? Are you a good teacher, upbeat, confident, sincere, kind and ready to meet the challenge of keeping a big group of roaming babies and toddlers and their grown-ups engaged. If so we invite you to apply to become a Little Folkies teacher! Fill out the application, and once approved we will give you the Little Folkies teacher training at a sliding scale, and you can start teaching as soon as next semester. The season curriculum features the all-acoustic original and traditional songs of the Little Folkies Collection, which is part of Smithsonian Folkways.
The online teacher training course is about 20 hours depending on how quick you learn and pick up the tunes and melodies. Teacher trainees will upload videos of each song and receive feedback on each song from our certified trainers.
