POSITION SUMMARY
The Childcare Teacher supports the development and delivery of high-quality, nature- and play-based programs for children aged 3 months to 12 years. This role focuses on implementing curriculum, supervising children and classroom activities, and fostering a nurturing, inclusive environment that supports children’s growth and learning. The Teacher works closely with assistant teachers, aids, and families to create meaningful experiences that align with the school’s mission. Job responsibilities are performed under the direction and supervision of the Childcare Director.
Pay Rate: $18 - $20/hour
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Specific responsibilities may vary based on program needs and teaching assignments and are subject to change as needed.
Program Delivery
- Plan and deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans rooted in nature exploration and play-based learning.
- Foster achievement, belonging, and positive relationships through intentional programming.
- Make systematic observations and evaluations to support each child’s developmental journey.
- Maintain accurate classroom records including lesson plans, evaluations, and child assessments.
- Provide updates and progress reports to the Childcare Director and Administrator as needed.
Classroom Supervision and Health, Safety and Compliance
- Oversee daily classroom operations, including supervising children and ensuring a safe, inclusive environment.
- Supervise teacher assistants, teacher aids, and classroom volunteers.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local licensing regulations.
- Provide ADA accommodations as needed to foster an inclusive environment.
- Assist in maintaining the program site and equipment to high standards of safety and cleanliness.
- Carry out safety protocols and procedures, ensuring compliance with all regulations.
- Maintain confidentiality of children’s records and family information.
- Complete 15 hours of continuing education annually, including abuse and neglect training every two years.
Community Engagement
- Cultivate strong relationships with families through effective daily communication, parent conferences and coordination of home schedule.
- Engage parents and connect them with internal and external community resources.
- Attend and contribute to special events, staff meetings, and training sessions.
- Participate in collaborative efforts to create a positive and engaging environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Age:
- At least 18 years of age
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of at least two DCF approved non-credit courses or two college-level classes in early childhood education.
Certifications:
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification (or within 3 months of hire).
- Abusive Head Trauma Prevention Training.
- Registry Certificate - Level 4 or above (Level 7 or above preferred).
Experience:
- At least 240 hours as an assistant teacher in a childcare center, family childcare, or another approved early childhood setting.
Skills and Physical Requirements:
- Experience working with diverse populations and developing authentic relationships with families and children.
- Ability to engage in physical activities with children including bending, lifting, sitting at their level, and staying active throughout the day.
- Comfort working in an environment that involves regular exposure to cleaning products, bodily fluids, and common viruses.
