Little Glad Early Childhood Center is looking for individuals to supervise and interact with school-age children (grades K-5) before and after school, and for the summer, organizing and participating in age-appropriate activities.  This is a great opportunity for college students in a early childhood field, parents who are looking for employment while their children are in school, retirees with a background in education or a caregiving field who are looking to stay active in the workforce.

 

We are willing to train the right candidates who possess flexibility, kindness, energy and enthusiasm for young children and who want to be part of an environment where the focus is on fun!

 

 

School Year Hours:  Monday - Friday, 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. and 2:30-5:30 p.m.with the potential to pick up additional hours between shifts covering for preschool staff members' lunch, breaks, etc.

 

Summer Hours: Monday-Friday, with 7.5 hours per day between the hours of 7:00a.m.-5:30p.m.

 

SUMMARY:  Assist in all aspects of child development and care for children enrolled in the classroom.  Working with other teaching staff to provide activities that support physical, social emotional and cognitive development while fostering positive relationships with the children and their families.

  • Maintain a working knowledge of expected child development performance standards and their relationship to center's curriculum, assessments and procedures.
  • Assist is lesson planning, activities, special programs, classroom environment, set-up, data collection and record keeping associated with the highest quality development/educational programming for children.
  • Assist with group activities and provide adaptation to activities to meet the needs of all children.
  • Provide a safe, positive, and sanitary environment for children.
  • Maintain the appearance and cleanliness of program space.
  • Assist in and enforce classroom, playground and gym rules.  
  • Encourage problem solving among children using positive reinforcement, redirection, effective communication and appropriate consequences.
  • Greet children and families and assist them with needs.
  • Communicate with families about student activities and daily needs through meetings. 
  • Make the emotional and social needs of the children the highest priority at all times.
  • When necessary, may be asked to work in different areas dependent on staffing and child care licensing rations.
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with students 

Physical Requirements: 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be physically present, regularly required to sit, use hands to handle, or feel; talk and hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust, focus, especially due to concentration on a computer screen and small numbers. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervise students when the teacher is temporarily absent.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. 
  • Ability to write routine reports
  • Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtract and multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
  • Ability to solve problems in a professional manner
