Little Island’s Custodians are essential members of the Park Operations team, responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of the park and its facilities. In addition to the park’s beautiful outdoor spaces, Little Island also features performance venues, public restrooms, indoor meeting rooms, staff and artist areas, food carts, and various equipment. Custodians work collaboratively across departments, jumping in to solve problems, addressing park needs, and proactively communicating concerns to park leadership. Their work is vital in fostering welcoming and memorable experiences for visitors. The Park Operations department includes a diverse team of Park Supervisors, Custodians, Facilities Staff, Horticulturists, and Administrators, all committed to the daily operations of the park. Custodians report directly to the Park Operations Manager.

- Hourly Rate: $23.00
- Position Type: This is a temporary position. Candidates interested in future opportunities will need to reapply.
- Employment Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-Time and Part-Time
- Schedule Expectations: Flexible, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Work Environment: Onsite at Little Island
- Onboarding Days: March 6 & 7, 2025
- Employment Duration: March 9, 2025 – September 28, 2025 (Full-Time) or November 2, 2025 (Part-Time)
What You’ll Do
- Clean and maintain the park, including all paths, performance spaces, public restrooms, indoor staff and artist areas, and other facilities.
- Monitor trash receptacles, replace trash bags, and transport waste to designated pick-up areas for removal by external services.
- Work closely with the Park Operations team to remove snow, ice, leaves, and debris, using the provided equipment.
- Report damage to the park or facilities and any hazards through the appropriate channels.
- Set up and break down park furniture (tables, chairs, stanchions, etc.) for public events or to prepare for inclement weather.
- Assist the Facilities team with maintenance tasks as needed.
- Welcome visitors to the park, provide information about park features, horticulture, and programming.
- Track and manage cleaning supplies, communicate restocking needs to the administrative team, and ensure supplies are replenished when deliveries arrive.
- Perform other tasks related to park operations as assigned.
What You Bring
- Understanding of proper cleaning and sanitation techniques and products.
- A proven track record of being dependable, on time, and exercising sound judgment.
- Experience prioritizing safety while completing cleaning and maintenance tasks.
- Experience with or willingness to learn to operate equipment such as power washers, leaf blowers, and snow blowers.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and perform physical tasks in various weather conditions, including light rain, summer heat, and direct sunlight.
- Ability to lift or transport objects up to 50 lbs.
- Possession of an OSHA 10 or 30 certification is preferred; willingness to complete OSHA 10 training is required.
