Greenhouse/Seeding Maintenance Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to identify cost saving and efficiency opportunities through prevention of seed loss and promotion of germination.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with Seeding and Growing departments to identify areas of concern and improvement ideas.
• Develop and implement procedures and best practices to assist in the elimination of seed loss and germination issues.
• Identify and Implement process and/or mechanical improvements to existing seeding and germination equipment.
• Assist with the development of seeding and germination area Preventive Maintenance (PM) processes and schedules.
• Learn seeding machine operation and germination box movements processes.
• Work with OEM vendors to identify updates and retrofits to existing equipment.
• Assist Maintenance technicians with larger scale repairs and rebuilds in the seeding and germination areas.
• Complete all assigned work orders completely and accurately document all prudent information describing the completion of the work order.
• Provide all information necessary to maintain proper parts inventories.
• Work with production operators to identify process improvements wherever possible.
• Clean machines and machine parts, using cleaning solvents, cloths, air guns, hoses, vacuums, or other equipment.
• Collaborate with other workers to repair or move machines, machine parts, or equipment.
• Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse in order to maintain machinery and work areas.
• Install, replace, or change machine parts and attachments, according to specifications.
• Inventory and requisition machine parts, equipment, and other supplies so that stock can be maintained and replenished.
• Maintain open, accurate communication with other maintenance employees as well as facility leadership.
• Transport machine parts, tools, equipment, and other material between work areas and storage, using cranes, hoists, or dollies.
• Use prescribed protective safety equipment and perform all work in a safe manner.
• Sets up and operates machine tools such as grinder, lathe, drill and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs, and fixtures and tools.
• Assist with building maintenance as needed.
• Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
• Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

• High School Diploma or GED.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:

• Associate degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
• 2 years apprenticeship or equivalent experience in the Electrical or Mechanical field.
• 2 years experience in Agricultural/Growing field.
• Experience with automated conveyor systems and controls.
• Ability to troubleshoot basic Input/Output functions.
• Experience with robotic operation/ maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing.
• Basic knowledge of pneumatics and air cylinders.
• Basic understanding of 3-phase electricity.
• Ability to maintain various pumps (positive pressure, centrifugal, etc.).
• Working knowledge of motor controllers, low voltage electrical systems, proximity switches, photo-eyes, and variable frequency drives.
• Basic understanding of schematics and blueprints.
• Basic understanding of various diagnostic equipment including, but not limited to, ohms meters, voltage meters, etc.
• Thoroughly understand and follow all OSHA and Company regulations as they relate to the maintenance field (LOTO, CSE, PPE, etc.).
• Highly knowledgeable with hand and power tools.
• Highly motivated, self-directed, innovative, and able to work independently or among teams with keen judgement, common sense and resourcefulness.
