Description:
The purpose of this position is to oversee the packaging and labeling of leafy greens products at the lowest possible cost consistent with good manufacturing practices. This position is also responsible for coordinating shifts, establishing work schedules, and monitoring employee performance to meet production goals.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Accomplish safety, throughput, and quality goals by communicating job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
- Coach, develop, and mentor teammates. Plan, assign, and direct work assignments, appraise performance, and resolve employee teammate issues and problems appropriately.
- Provide leadership and motivation through personal example. Collaborate with other departments to promote positive work relationships.
- Observe employee work quality, monitor equipment and indicators to ensure that finished products conform to internal and/or customer specifications.
- Encourages suggestions from employees that improve production, quality, safety and/or control costs of production.
- Conducts employee safety training, coordinates on-the-job training for newly hired or transferred employees, and holds monthly line meetings.
- Establish and maintain functional department inventory levels.
- Assist in monitoring and achieving departmental budgeting goals.
- Establish, maintain, and report daily production efficiencies as determined by management.
- Perform RCA (Root Cause Analysis) when criteria established by management is not met.
- Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Standard Work Instructions.
- Employ critical thinking and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify issues in efficiency or productivity throughput and suggest improvements.
- Confer with Lead Persons, Production Supervisors, and Department Managers to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
- Recommend personnel actions such as hiring and promotions.
- Attend seminars and training which will enhance professional competence.
- Serves on various continuous improvement committees as needed. Engage with direct reports to drive continuous improvement.
- Administer company policies in a fair and consistent manner.
- Keep your direct supervisor informed on processing and/or employee problems which may require their attention or knowledge.
- Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating appropriately and constructively with customers, clients, teammates, and management.
- May make decisions and perform the job responsibilities of Operations Manager in their absence.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- One-year certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
- Completion of an OSHA 10-hour course
- Mechanical aptitude and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Able to train and motivate department personnel.
- Able to supervise department personnel in a fair and consistent manner.
- Must be able to work overtime, weekends, or other shifts when required.
- Spanish required.
- Ability to perform routine functions and reporting within MS Word and Excel
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of teammates
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram or schedule form.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, or related field with 3 years of supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties.
- Experience in fast-paced perishable foods manufacturing environment
- Experience with GAP, GMP, and HACCP principals and their proper applications
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, ethics, and cultural awareness.
- Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Exceptional computer skills in Microsoft® Office Suite ( Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word). Basic ERP experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Operate with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information.
- Strong detail-oriented and resourceful mindset.
- Knowledgeable of Lean Manufacturing principles and processes (5S, TPM, etc.).
- Bilingual English and Spanish preferred
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
