Summary

The Infant Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, partnering with parents, and preparing the environment using Magda Gerber's Educaring Approach. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional and physical development at the Zero-Three level in order to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are respected individually and trusted to develop naturally. Teachers are supported under the guidance of a RIE / Montessori mentor engaged alongside new faculty members as they develop relationships with the children, their parents, and the collaborative teaching team. Communication is a key component in being with infants, supporting families, and maintaining consistency within the team during daily team meetings and weekly administrative team meetings.

Duties

  • Coordinate and implement the RIE and / or Montessori curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and daily team meetings
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities through individual child observations of each child's physical, social, cognitive and emotional growth
  • Plan and maintain indoor and outdoor learning environments in keeping with the season
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, monthly community meetings, and parent-teacher conferences
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children
  • Participate in professional development planning to ensure continuous quality improvement

Requirements

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment
  • A strong understanding of child development and willingness to align with RIE and Montessori principles
  • Infant / child CPR and First Aid certification and ABC training
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening
  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools or controls, talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat or crawl
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s Degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 Credits in ECE
  • Spanish speaking
  • Gardening, baking, composting knowledge
