We are a TEAM working together towards the well-being of young children. Founded in 1977, our center is intentionally small and independently owned and operated by RIE and Montessori certified classroom teachers. Together we enjoy low ratios with a primary group of children who stay together for three or more years. New members of our faculty are supported by mentor teachers and parents as partners while caring for children using Magda Gerber's and Maria Montessori's respectful models of early childhood education.
All faculty members are full-time, Monday-Friday, 7 : 30am-4 : 30pm with an hour break. Children arrive at 8 : 00am and depart by 3 : 00pm (limited after care until 4 : 00pm). Each day we gather together for communication, environment prep, and classroom planning. Starting salary is competitive and we are willing to train the right individual for long term growth. Benefits include paid holidays, up to 5 weeks accrued vacation, health care services, matching IRA, paid training, free / reduced childcare, annual bonus, and a community which regards you and your work.
Duties
All collaborate teachers regardless of tenure work closely together to prepare for each child's individual caregiving needs, social-emotional learning, physical development, and academic learning. Together we are responsible for maintaining a safe environment, following DSS and school guidelines, maintaining rosters and tracking sheets, weekly observation and assessment, cleaning and daily meal prep and clean up. Our program is very much structured to look and feel like a home environment with the adults working alongside each other and families in partnership.
After three months of support and training, teachers enjoy building a primary caregiving relationship with a very small group of families which may last three to six years. Teachers advance with their peer group of primary children as they develop the classroom environment, individualize the curriculum, and support each child maturing independence. Each team of two Primary Teachers is supported by a Mentor Master Teacher with individualized OTJ and opportunities for Team Group Processing and Team Building experiences.
As an ABC provider, candidates are required to be Infant / Toddler CPR and 1st Aid trained, obtain 15 hours of ABC online training, and complete a 3-hour video training on the RIE / Montessori models of early childhood care within 90 days. Paid professional training may be provided based on each teacher's needs and interest- we love to learn as much as the children do!
