Job Summary
Primarily responsible for locating underground facilities, including fiber optic and copper cables, using utility maps, mapping tools and other location information, along with locating and specialized equipment. Indicates utility locates through the utilization of paint and flags and sketches or photographs each locate for later reference. Responsible for organization of daily tickets and timely communication with Supervisors and other departments for prioritizing and clarifying projects. Will assist installers and construction as workload requires. Responsible for snow removal.
Essential Job Functions (May include but are not limited to the following. Other duties may be assigned.)
- Locates and marks underground utility lines using specialized equipment and techniques.
- Reads and interprets blueprints, maps, and drawings to accurately locate utility lines.
- Uses cabling and probing tools to identify the depth and location of utility lines.
- Organizes and routes daily ticket load according to area and priority.
- Meets with appropriate Supervisors and other departments for ticket priority and for project clarification.
- Identifies utility sources and references to records, maps and visual verification.
- Sketches and/or photographs each locate using measurements and offset points of reference.
- Receives and responds to all internal locate requests and Gopher State One-Call tickets during normal business, and after hours, in accordance with established time and on-call requirements.
- Performs fiber-optic testing, preparation, and potentially, splicing when needed.
- Assists with updating maps and drawings of underground facilities.
- In the event of an outage due to cable damage, during and after hours, works with team members to find, expose and repair the damage in order to restore services in a timely manner.
- Performs general maintenance on underground facilities, including but not limited to grounding of cables and damage repair.
- Assists with installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of broadband internet services, voice services, data services, and video and television services, as well as customer equipment in a high quality, efficient, and courteous manner, to ensure high customer satisfaction.
- Completes electronic documentation of installation, test reports, and plant records, accurately and timely manner, for billing and record keeping purposes.
- Provides training, feedback and support to others on an as needed basis.
