Safety Manager


Job Overview

The Safety Manager is responsible for helping the Company maintain a strong safety culture. The right candidate will have a strong background in safety and risk management, regulatory knowledge, and excellent influencing skills. As our Safety Manager, you'll be at the forefront of driving safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with regulations, offering engaging training to our employees and contractors, and championing our Safety Incentive Program. As a Manager of this department, you must communicate effectively with employees in a manner that supports the intended company safety culture with factual and concise information.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safety culture of learning and communication by building collaborative and professional relationships with all levels across the organization.
  • Promote a safe and healthy environment on all job sites and office facilities in compliance with local and federal rules and regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as well as Mine Safety Health Administration (MSHA).
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies and tactics to achieve safety goals and objectives to determine opportunities for improvement and measures to be implemented to mitigate any deficiencies.
  • Review accident reports, conduct investigations, prepare post-accident investigation reports and root cause analysis, and make appropriate recommendations to management.
  • Manage employee injury cases; investigate or oversee the investigation of claims; develop strategies to handle specific cases in consultation with the appropriate parties.
  • Respond to and resolve complex and sensitive inquiries and complaints; evaluate problems and take appropriate action to resolve issues and/or concerns; advise injured employees of their benefits.
  • Oversee the processing of vehicle/equipment insurance claims to ensure the procedure is handled efficiently, accurately, and in a manner that protects the interests of the Company.
  • Conduct safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Conduct job site inspections, meetings, and site safety inspections. Review all inspections with Management and complete follow-up inspections to ensure abatement is followed.
  • Implement initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
  • Stop operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate labor law posters for all job sites.
  • Review safety training and recommend revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Conduct employee training on applicable safety standards and safe job procedures.
  • Conduct site-specific training for all employees as required.
  • Develop, maintain, monitor, and communicate monthly established key performance indicators (KPI) to verify the attainment of specified safety goals and objectives. Collaborate with management in resolving outstanding safety issues and promote safety objectives.
  • Analyze the safety resources needed to accomplish the above-referenced objectives.
  • Develop and nurture relationships with industry stakeholders, including Safety Managers, Safety Officers, Project Teams, Employees, Clients, and Subcontractors; represent and promote the safety brand and accomplishments.
  • Administer random drug testing.
  • Ensure completion of required OSHA AND MSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Responsible for organizational team building within the Safety Department. Ensure the professional development of safety staff by providing appropriate safety training opportunities, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with all environmental agencies.
  • Work with a Professional Engineer to maintain existing permits and obtain new permits.
  • Stay up to date with potential MSHA regulation changes to keep the Company prepared and ready to implement.
  • Work in conjunction with managers from all departments
  • Perform other duties and special assignments, as assigned by the management.

 

Qualifications


Qualifications

  • Experience: Five (5) years in the safety management with construction or mine safety preferred.
  • Skills: Proven ability to oversee and maintain safety processes in a computer environment; proven experience in safety training through knowledge of Federal and State safety laws and regulations.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to identify and resolve problems promptly and gather and analyze information skillfully.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English fluently. Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with Company employees, vendors, and customers in a manner consistent with acceptable business standards.
  • Must communicate effectively with employees in a manner that supports the intended company safety culture with factual and concise information.
  • Must have managerial skills. Must be able to work under time and budgetary pressures.
