Parents As Teachers (PAT)/ Parent Educator (PE)
Part-Time 30 hours a week
POSITION SUMMARY
A certified parent educator implements the PAT model, emphasizing parent-child interaction, development-centered parenting, and family well-being in their work with families. Utilizing the PAT Foundational Curriculum in culturally sensitive ways, the parent educator partners, facilitates, and reflects with families.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but not limited to:
- Engage in recruitment activities.
- Complete an initial and annual family-centered assessment with each family.
- Develop, monitor, and review goals with each family.
- Plan, provide, and document personal visits focused on parent-child interaction, development centered parenting and family well-being.
- Use the Foundational Curriculum to share researched based information with families.
- Screen for child’s developmental progress.
- Provide group connections to give families an opportunity to build social connections with each other, engage in parent-child interaction activities, and increase their knowledge of ways to support children’s development.
- Complete at least an initial and annual developmental screening, health review for each child.
- Connect families to resources that help them reach their goals and address their needs.
- Help parents and children transition to other services as needed, preschool or to kindergarten.
- Maintain and submit in a timely way all required family and program documentation.
- Organize and inventory supplies and materials, etc.
- Participate in at least two hours of reflective supervision monthly and at least two hours of staff meetings monthly.
- Obtain competency-based professional development and renew parent educator certification annually.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement.
- Be available to serve families in non-traditional work hours if necessary.
- Participate in Quality through Technology and Innovation in Pediatrics meetings and collaboratives.
- Attend trainings/conferences/webinars as specified throughout the year.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

- Demonstrate oral and written communication skills. Bi-lingual a plus.

- Confidentiality is important as direct support staff have access to full health information with the clear understanding that access and reading is limited to need for treatment, reimbursement or operations.

- The parent educator must complete Foundational Training and Model Implementation Training before delivering PAT services.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors in early childhood education, social work, health, psychology or a related field.
- It is acceptable for parent educators to have a two-year degree or 60 college hours in early childhood or related field. Supervised experience working with young children and/or parents is also recommended.
- It is essential that parent educators have at least a high school diploma or equivalency degree and a minimum of two years previous supervised work experience with young children and/or parents.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to establish rapport with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
