Job Objective & Safety/Security Sensitive Designation
Job Objective: To provide, safe educational experiences and supervision of children ages 6-12 during Zoofari camp season at the Little Rock Zoo.
This position is not designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is not subject to random drug and alcohol screening.
The City will be accepting applications based on the hiring needs of the Zoo. Interviewing will be conducted on a continuing basis while Zoofari Camp registrations are open.
Essential Functions

These knowledge, skills, and abilities are usually, although not always, acquired through completion of either one (1) cumulative year experience in teaching (formal or informal), interpretation, or camp facilitation; or two or more years of undergraduate coursework in science, education or a related area. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Must be 18 years of age or older and must possess a valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment and maintain licensure for the duration of employment in this position.

Essential Functions
Essential Job Functions:
- Independently supervise, guide, and teach children ages 6-12.
- Facilitate and actively participate in age-appropriate activities, games, and crafts in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Interact with caregivers, Zoo guests, volunteers, and other staff in a professional manner.
- Collaborate with Camp Guide peers and serve as a mentor for Summer Youth Employees (SYE) and teen program participants, using constructive feedback and co-teaching methods.
- Explain and maintain camp expectations, redirecting campers, as needed, toward appropriate behavior.
- Prepare daily materials and supplies, monitoring inventory and condition, to ensure items are available and ready to conduct scheduled programs and activities.
- Assist with program evaluation and assessments, as needed.
- Serve as a role model and leader for campers by creating a safe and fun camp environment, encouraging curiosity and self-expression.
- Maintain clean and tidy camp spaces, which may include sweeping, wiping up spills, organizing and putting away materials, setting up or breaking down tables and chairs.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of age-appropriate messaging and engagement techniques for children ages 6-12.
- Knowledge of life sciences, exotic animal species, and conservation/environmental science.
- Ability to deliver conservation/environmental education lesson plans that inform the campers about the Zoo and its conservation efforts.
- Ability to facilitate programs and connect to diverse audiences of various ages, backgrounds, ethnicities, and knowledge-levels in classroom sized groups.
- Ability to collaborate with volunteers and communicate needs for assistance effectively during various camp activities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals and groups.
- Work at least four weeks of summer camp (do not have to be consecutive), scheduled Monday-Friday.
- We do not offer camp the week of June 30 to July 4 in observance of the holiday.
- Attend mandatory orientation and training days occurring on April 19, 20, and 26.
