Custodian/Maintenance/Van Driver

Position Overview: The Custodian at our childcare facility plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and hygienic environment for children, staff, and visitors. As Custodian, you will be responsible for ensuring the overall cleanliness and sanitation of the facility, which includes classrooms, play areas, restrooms, kitchen, common areas, and any other designated spaces. Your contributions will directly impact the well-being and health of the children in our care, creating a pleasant and conducive learning atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

Cleaning and Sanitizing: Perform regular cleaning tasks to ensure all areas of the facility are kept clean and free from germs. This includes dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, and disinfecting surfaces to maintain high standards of cleanliness.

Restroom Maintenance: Regularly clean and sanitize restrooms to ensure they are safe and hygienic for children and staff. Stock restrooms with necessary supplies like soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.

Trash and Waste Management: Empty trash cans and recycling bins regularly throughout the facility. Dispose of waste appropriately, adhering to facility guidelines and regulations.

Classroom Support: Assist teachers and staff as needed with setting up and cleaning classrooms and activity areas. Ensure materials and supplies are well-organized and readily accessible.

Floor Care: Monitor and maintain the condition of the flooring to ensure safety and cleanliness. Perform necessary floor maintenance tasks such as mopping, waxing, and spot-cleaning carpets.

Safety and Security: Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or damages to the appropriate personnel promptly. Take necessary precautions to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment.

Kitchen: Assist kitchen staff as needed with organization, cleaning kitchen and storage areas and coolers regularly. Ensure materials and supplies are well-organized and readily accessible.

Supply Management: Keep track of janitorial supplies and notify the supervisor when supplies need replenishment. Maintain an organized and efficient supply storage area.

Outdoor Support: Grounds support may be needed as directed by the House & Grounds Manager or Director. This may include but not limited to mowing, planting and caring for flowers and plants, collecting trash, and ensuring pathways are clear and hazard-free.

Transportation Driver: Pick up aftercare students from public or charter school and bring them to our facility. Check van for all passengers and bring them in the building and sign each one in.

Special Events Support: Assist with event setup and cleanup, ensuring the facility remains clean and presentable during special occasions and gatherings.

Compliance with Health and Safety Standards: Follow all health and safety protocols and maintain a deep understanding of childcare facility regulations related to sanitation and hygiene.

Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other staff members and teachers to create a harmonious and supportive work environment.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Proven experience in janitorial or custodial work, preferably in a similar environment.
• Knowledge of proper cleaning and sanitation techniques.
• Familiarity with the safe usage of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
• Physical stamina to perform cleaning tasks, including bending, lifting, and prolonged standing.
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining a clean and organized facility.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team setting.
• A passion for ensuring the well-being and safety of children.
