Little Sisters of the Poor in Newark is looking for a Hospitality Aide to join our Team.
JOB OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this position is to contribute to the mission of caring for our Residents by tending to their daily needs (except for some direct-care tasks such as but not limited to toileting, bathing, giving oral care and other such assignments). Areas supported by this position include nursing, activities, housekeeping/laundry and dietary.
The Hospitality Aide will carry out the above duties in keeping with the mission of Little Sisters of the Poor, namely the caring for the aged poor with love, respect and dignity. “Making the elderly happy, that is what counts” was a saying of Saint Jeanne Jugan, foundress of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Central to this philosophy is the promotion of the psychological, emotional, spiritual and social well-being of our Residents in an atmosphere of kindness and faith.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Speak, read and understand spoken and written English language.
- Perform, follow and adhere to proper body mechanics.
- Work independently as well as a member of the collaborative healthcare team;
- Demonstrate patience and tolerance with Residents who at times may demonstrate challenging behavior.
- Perform the essential job functions listed below with or without reasonable accommodation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares Resident rooms (i.e., turns down beds, replaces towels/linen as necessary, empties trash, dust, dry mops floor, disinfects doorknobs and wheelchairs, etc.);
- Stores/puts away clean linen/Resident’s clothes as delivered to the cottage. Returns hampers to the laundry. Collects empty hangers from the wardrobe/closets.
- Engages Residents in meaningful activities in a small group setting or 1:1 exchange. Transports Residents to Chapel, beauty shop, physical therapy, meal service, etc.;
- Retrieves meal carts from kitchen and ensures correct temperatures are maintained throughout meal service. Records food temperatures.
- Along with other staff, distributes meals and nourishments to Residents in both the dining room or through tray service to those who are room bound; cuts food into portions suitable to consume, prepares beverages and encourages Residents to eat/drink for hydration and nourishment. Reports amount consumed to the nursing staff.
- Collects plates, silverware, napkins and trays after meal service. Transports dirty dishes to kitchen and assist in cleaning the pantry area and maintaining same in a sanitary state of readiness.
- Perform simple motor/coordination skills such as standing, walking, stooping, sitting, etc. Perform simple repetitive, manipulative tasks such as sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping, etc.
