The Quality Assurance/Staff Development Registered Nurse is responsible for staff training, including planning overall orientation and ongoing education and inservice programs for the development of skills to provide for quality of care providing; also provides safety/health teaching to Residents.
JOB TITLE: RN Quality Assurance/Staff Development
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
JOB OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for planning overall orientation and ongoing education and inservice program for the development of skills to provide for quality of care. Provides safety/health teaching to Residents. These services are consistent with the Home's standards and philosophy and follow all regulations, codes, policies and procedures that govern the facility.
JOB STANDARDS:
1. Must be a graduate of an accredited School of Registered Nursing, licensed to practice in Washington D.C.
2. Must have training or experience in areas such as nursing administration/supervision, rehabilitation nursing, psychiatric or geriatric nursing.
3. Must possess leadership, self-reliance, creativity, integrity, initiative, good judgment, and dependability. Must possess good communication and documentation skills, preferably teaching and public speaking skills.
4. Must possess an ability to work congenially with others, possessing a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm to create an atmosphere conducive to Resident rehabilitation and staff growth.
5. Effectively deal with stress created by Residents' illnesses, disabilities and the aging process, organizational change, and working cooperatively as part of the health care team.
6. Must possess the ability to evaluate the needs of the professional and nonprofessional staff. Provide inservices to enhance their professional and technical competency.
7. Registered to function as a primary instructor to instruct and competency test Nursing Assistants.
8. Must have background experience or knowledge of Federal, State and local codes and regulations governing long-term care facilities applicable to job objectives.
9. Must have a base knowledge of community resources or the ability to pool from appropriate resources, information applicable to job objectives.
10. Will not make modifications, additions, or deletions to computer hardware or software without permission of the province. Will adhere to software licensing agreements.
11. Computer skills: experience in Point Click Care preferred.
12. Must possess the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Plan, implement and evaluate educational programs for all departments collaborating with the Director of Nursing regarding topics and methods of instruction.
2. Document attendance and prepare reports of programs presented including lesson plans, content, evaluation and follow-up.
3. Plan, coordinate and conduct regular and special inservice training programs for staff collaborating with the Director of Nursing to familiarize them with new procedures, policies or changes in Resident Care techniques and equipment. Meet Federal/State Nursing Assistant requirement for 12 hours of inservice in a year.
4. Act as a liaison to other department supervisors in developing inservice programs.
5. Plan and direct general orientation program for all new employees covering the following areas at time of hire and annually: safety/fire, infection/exposure control, Resident Rights and confidentiality as per Federal/State regulations in collaboration with the Director of Nursing.
6. Conduct and evaluate fire drills and evaluate employee and Resident response, communicate ways to improve drill response.
7. Provides Health Club teaching to Residents on health and wellness topics.
8. Strive for optimal use of supplies, materials, keeping in mind cost and budget limitations.
9. Maintain confidentiality of all Resident, departmental and organizational information. Demonstrate behavior that indicates recognition of Resident rights.
10. Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member within the Department and with all departments or other disciplines.
11. Observe dress and conduct codes, including wearing identification badge.
12. Meet attendance standards as established and provide proper notice of absence.
13. Complete duties in prescribed time.
14. Follow all safety, security, exposure control and hazardous waste policies and procedures.
15. Attend inservices and department meetings to continually refine clinical and interpersonal skills.
16. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, which includes unit nurse duties and weekend shifts.
