SUMMARY: This position is responsible for maximizing third party reimbursement for services provided at LTBB Health Department, including Crooked Tree Wellness Clinic.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides excellent customer service to clients, vendors and fellow employees. Represents the LTBB Health Department in a professional and positive manner.
- Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the practice of health education in Native American communities. Must be culturally competent and meet the health literacy and linguistic needs of target populations.
- Receive and process all revenue cycle remittance advice and share with established contractor for posting
- Monitor revenue tracking spreadsheets for accuracy and completeness
- Prepare deposit sheets for all payments received to be delivered to Accounting for processing
- Assist the Assistant Health Director in performing quarterly reconciliation and billing and coding audits in accordance with internal controls policy and procedures
- Engage with various health staff to follow up on billing rejections and non-reimbursable encounters prior to authorizing account balance reductions
- Monitor and analyze weekly reports from State of Michigan to ensure encounters are received and processed for payment
- Prepare revenue reports as directed by Assistant Health Director
- Serve as the main point of contact for billing contractor and troubleshoot issues as they arise
- Assist in the update of established policy and procedures for revenue cycle operations
- Serve as subject matter expert during implementation of new EPIC EHR system within the LTBB Health Department
- Participate in all system testing, identify issues, and troubleshoot with Implementation team to ensure a smooth transition to a new Electronic Health Record.
- Complete all required training to become expert in billing within the EPIC EHR system, participate in workgroups to ensure implementation is smooth and workflows are created to meet current and future needs of organization
- Perform charge reviews, claim edits, remit reviews, claim follow-up, and account management functions to maximize revenue collection for all billable visits.
- All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Associates degree in Accounting, Business, or Health field required. Minimum 2 years working in a medical billing environment required. Experience working in tribal community preferred. Experience working with Medicaid billing preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to build and maintain professional working relationships with outside entities. Must be able to multi-task and thrive in a fast paced, busy working environment. Must have a strong attention to detail. Must maintain accurate and organized records of all revenue and audit findings. Must possess strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook). Must be able to create formulas in Excel and maintain Excel spreadsheets. Must have strong written skills and be able to compose a professional business letter, memo and report. Must be able to verbally communicate in a clear and confident manner, in person and on the phone with a variety of stakeholders. Must be proficient in basic math. Must be willing to travel occasionally, possibly including air travel and several consecutive nights. Must be reliable and able to follow work rules and schedule. Must have a positive job history, including with LTBB. Must be able to accept constructive feedback. Must be able to work as part of a team in delivery of Health Department goals. Conducts behavior in a manner that is professional and courteous to all patients and staff at all times. Must have knowledge of medical office operating procedures, with knowledge of computers and calculators. The ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness is essential.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable for duration of employment.
COMMENTS: Indian preference will apply. Candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation. Individual must have a positive job history with former employers, including LTBB. Individual must take TB test and get influenza vaccination annually due to working in a health setting. LTBB Health Department is a scent free environment
ABOUT US: On Sept. 21, 1994, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) was federally reaffirmed with the signing of Public Law 103-324. The Tribe is governed by a nine-member Tribal Council who serve staggered terms. The LTBB Government presently employs over 200 employees across more than 20 departments, ranging from Healthcare to Natural Resources.
