SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for processing medical claims while assisting with various administrative duties for the Purchased/Referred Care (PRC) program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Provide excellent customer service to clients and vendors and fellow employees, and represent LTBB Health Department in a professional, positive manner.
· Recognizes and is sensitive to the cultural dimension inherent in the practice of health education in Native American communities. Must be culturally competent and meet the health literacy and linguistic needs of target populations.
· Process medical claims from a variety of high-volume providers within the required 30-day turnaround.
· Must maintain client information as medical privileged information, following HIPAA & LTBB confidentiality standards.
· Work within a positive team environment to ensure all PRC duties are completed, including desk coverage as needed.
· Create purchase orders and obligate funds in accordance with PRC regulations using EHR system.
· Issue routine denials for PRC payment as directed by PRC Specialist and the Managed Care Team.
· Conduct routine verbal and written correspondence with PRC clients and outside vendors.
· Review and complete client registration for LTBB Health Department services.
· Must participate in cross-training opportunities to cover other functions in the program as needed.
· Must be able to understand ICD-10 medical coding and basic medical billing practices.
· Must be proficient in EHR system.
· Assist with Health Department outreach and events as needed.
· Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or G.E.D. required. One year of college coursework completed in a health or office administration field preferred (12 credits completed successfully). One year of experience in accounting or medical billing required. A combination of education and work experience may be considered.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must be able to show empathy and relate to patients seeking help with issues. Must be able to verbally communicate in a clear and confident manner, in person and on the phone with patients and coworkers. Must be able to work in stressful situations while maintaining a professional demeanor and positive working environment. Must be friendly and personable and able to accept constructive feedback from supervisor. Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. Must have strong keyboarding and data entry skills. Must be willing to travel for training as needed. Must be able to work as a cooperative member of a team. Be reliable; able to follow work schedule and follow work rules. Must be able to accept constructive feedback. Must be able to work as part of a team in delivery of Health Department goals. Conducts behavior in a manner that is professional and courteous to all patients and staff at all times.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and be insurable for duration of employment.
COMMENTS: Indian preference will apply. Candidates must pass a comprehensive background investigation. Individual must have a positive job history with former employers, including LTBB. Individual must take TB test and get influenza vaccination annually due to working in a health setting. LTBB Health Department is a scent free environment
ABOUT US: On Sept. 21, 1994, the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) was federally reaffirmed with the signing of Public Law 103-324. The Tribe is governed by a nine-member Tribal Council who serve staggered terms. The LTBB Government presently employs over 200 employees across more than 20 departments, ranging from Healthcare to Natural Resources.
