The Accounting Supervisor - General Ledger is responsible for accounting activities including but not limited to, transaction creation, validation, processing and recording, capital accounting, reviewing and approving payment requests and exercising judgement as to each payment’s classification under Federal tax law, Littler Global accounting, income and balance sheet reconciliation, analysis and reporting, external audit, Financial Center, 3E and other system balancing and reconciliation and other activities in response to current and future business needs.
This is a hybrid position resident in Kansas City.

Responsibilities
- Assigned areas may include, but are not limited to deciding what account chart fields to establish under the chart of accounts and maintenance thereof, exercising judgement in recording material journal entries and other transaction creation, validation, processing and recording, capital accounting, determining appropriate lease accounting methodology, reviewing and approving Littler Mendelson Foundation payment requests and exercising judgement as to each payment’s classification under Federal tax law, Littler Global accounting, income and balance sheet reconciliation, analysis and reporting, external audit, Financial Center, 3E and other system balancing and reconciliation and other activities in response to current and future business needs. Determining next course of corrective action when a significant variance occurs in an account reconciliation that may be material to the Firm’s financial statements.
- Researching and determining the appropriate accounting application of the modified cash basis of accounting and that only approved transactions are recorded to the correct general ledger account. Financial and other reporting fairly presents the financial position, performance, and cash-flows of the Firm's operations.
- Department policies and procedures are consistently complied with.
- Inquiries from Shareholders, other employees, vendors and other third parties are addressed in a timely matter and appropriately resolved.
- Oral and written communications are effective, professional, and appropriate to the circumstance.
- Review of journal entries and reconciliations are performed in compliance with month-end close procedures to ensure timeliness and accuracy.
- Collaboration and communication between General Ledger team members, accounting & finance group departments, and other corporate / firm departments is appropriate in the circumstance and effective.
- Team members are motivated, seek ongoing performance feedback, training, and professional development opportunity. Firm Employee policies and procedures are followed and enforced.
- Personal improvement, growth and development objectives are set, actioned, and evaluated annually.
- Special projects assigned including oversight of the annual audit are organized and efficiently executed.
- Perform such other/additional duties as may from time to time be assigned.
- Demonstrated mastery of core accounting skills and concepts, and general business acumen acquired via at least a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance, together with 7 years or equivalent accounting related experience in a high volume, multi-location, multi-currency General Ledger & Reporting function, ideally in a Law Firm or other Professional Services and/or owner managed environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of General Ledger & Reporting best practices, policies and processes sufficient to; supervise, review and approve accounting transactions as well as execute transaction posting, analysis, reconciliation and validation of multi-currency balance sheet and income statement accounts; capital accounting; analysis and application of the modified cash basis of accounting to complex accounting scenarios; monthly and other periodic close cycle activities, reviewing and coordinating annual audit workpapers and engaging with external auditors, tax return and other reporting obligations; Capital & Operating Lease transaction processing; design and complete basic financial analysis and data interpretation, drawing appropriate conclusions and executing related action plans.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office, sufficient to complete basic account analysis and reconciliation. Demonstrated ability to leverage Microsoft Word and Outlook to communicate effectively, create, and edit documents. Demonstrated ability to execute transactions, and extract and analyze data from 3E and Advanced Financial Insights (AFS) and/or data-cube warehouse environments.
- Proven ability to exercise sound judgment in financial and accounting matters. Demonstrated ability to effectively raise issues and consult with department manager to resolve issues and ensure compliance with firm policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience training and mentoring junior staff.
- Demonstrated ability to recruit, lead, mentor, evaluate and develop talent. Demonstrated ability to lead staff and execute operational model through the use of influence. Demonstrated ability to resolve complex issues and otherwise escalate to department manager with related recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and distribute team workload to maximize individual and team performance. This will involve a demonstrated ability to organize work into structured tasks, respond to new and unforeseen requests, and assign activities to team members in a manner that creates balance and reflects continuous prioritization.
- Demonstrated ability to execute multiple tasks and high workload volume without material impact on error rates or client service. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and master new processes, steps, policies and technical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to articulate process steps and draw comparisons between processes and measures of output such as productivity, efficiency, and quality.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate in person and via e-mail and telephone with staff, peers, management, vendors, and internal/external clients.
- Demonstrated ability to execute tasks efficiency and effectively within expected timeframes.
