Description

The Position: Our Intensive Care Team delivers exceptional nursing care to hospitalized patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. This team collaborates closely with both our intern veterinary staff and specialized veterinary experts. The ideal candidate will have prior equine veterinary experience and VTNE certification. Experience with triage and foal care, along with outstanding customer service, is essential. The role requires a self-motivated individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and excels at multitasking. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to identify, analyze, and resolve issues effectively, are also key qualifications.

The ICU shifts are 3- 12 hour shifts with days starting at 7am and nights starting at 7pm. The current shifts available are Friday through Sunday night shift and Sunday through Tuesday day shift. 

What We Offer: We offer competitive wages ranging from $21 to $26 per hour with a weekend and night shift differential for certain shifts, along with an excellent benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision coverage, supplemental options, and a 401(k) match after six months. Starting Responsibilities:

Prioritize patient well-being by providing comprehensive daily treatments and nursing care for all hospitalized patients. This includes monitoring colic parameters, performing venipuncture, placing catheters, and maintaining gastric tubes. Oversee high-risk patients’ post-sedation and post-anesthesia and deliver post-surgical care for both elective and emergency procedures. Prepare medications, fluids, constant rate infusions (CRIs), and oxygen treatments as needed. Perform and analyze bloodwork, quickly recognizing and communicating abnormalities to ensure timely interventions.

Effective communication with the veterinary team, technical support team, and clients. Identify patient abnormalities promptly and communicate findings efficiently. Provide empathetic client support, answer questions thoughtfully, and practice active listening. Accurately update patient medical records using appropriate veterinary medical terminology.

Maintains a clean and organized environment, including treatment rooms and patient stalls, adhering to cleaning protocols and biosecurity standards. Stock supplies as needed and contribute to departmental tasks during each shift.

Qualifications


Education/Experience: Basic level of horse handling experience required. Preference given to credentialed technicians who have graduated from an AVMA accredited school of veterinary technology and successfully completed the VTNE.

Language Ability: Ability to understand both written and verbal instructions regarding patient care and treatments. Ability to appropriately chart patient parameters, subjective observations, and independently utilize provided resources for standard operating procedures. Ability to effectively communicate and respond to questions from managers, doctors, and clients.

Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as drug doses, dilutions, percentages, rate, ratio and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, add subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions.

Computer Skills: Computer literacy in common computer software programs.

Special Skills: Equine restraint/handling and horsemanship skills.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions throughout all four seasons. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to the risk of radiation and chemical exposure. Knowledge of MSDS use and personal protective gear including (but not limited to) gloves, masks, respirators, and eyewash stations are required. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate
