What are the responsibilities and job description for the District Security Officer (Full-Time, 12 Month Position - District Office) position at Littleton Public Schools?
- Monitors and interacts with the district's unified security, communication, Mass Notification, HVAC, Fire, and all hazard monitoring/alert systems. Responds to and/or dispatches appropriate responders to events and incidents detected by these unified systems.
- Patrols district property by foot and/or vehicle to check exterior and interior for situations and activity that could impact the safety and security of the district.
- Responds to emergencies and assists other responders professionally.
- Conducts thorough reviews of bus surveillance footage as a critical component of daily responsibilities, dedicating four to six hours of each shift to meticulously analyze and document activities. This process is essential for identifying and addressing any potential safety concerns or incidents involving students. The officer is responsible for ensuring that all findings are accurately recorded and promptly communicated to district leadership to enhance student safety and improve transportation security protocols.
- Interacts with staff, students, and the public in a professional manner, including properly de-escalating difficult situations.
- Logs all alarms, incident reports, HVAC status checks, card access transactions, building access/secures, and other assigned reports to standards.
- Logs all events detected on the unified security, HVAC, Fire, Mass Notification, and all hazard detection systems. Events will be logged in the correct log and reporting systems.
- Communicates via phone, e-mail, two-way pagers, and two-way radio.
- Performs directed maintenance and diagnostics on the unified security system. These duties include video management function checks, security system checks, access card system checks, mass notification system checks, and device battery change-outs as directed.
- Communicates with others utilizing the unified security system's interoperability communication systems.
- Performs general periodic emergency response pager duty after hours; responds to situations and emergencies as a 1st responder in 20 minutes or less. While on pager duty, the employee will be able to deploy radio and/or cell phone to provide two-way communication with the security office.
- Must have high school degree or equivalent. Some criminal justice or human services college level course work desirable.
- Must obtain CPI certification within six months of employment.
- Must obtain FEMA CERT certification within one year of employment.
- Must obtain all other certificates.
- Required to maintain current First Aid/CPR certification during course of employments in this position.

In addition, this position provides the monitoring of all of the district’s security, CCTV, fire, and HVAC systems; performs mobile and foot patrols of district property to team standards; is aware of and able to communicate to others about all security instructions and district emergency planning procedures; responds to incidents as a 1st responder and assists other 1st responders in emergencies; provides light maintenance and service checks on card readers, motion detectors, security cameras, and other assigned equipment; deals with the public appropriately and effectively in all situations; works under potentially hostile and stressful situations; performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications - Education/Certification
Experience
Preferred at least 3 years of experience in security system monitoring and physical security or in a Law Enforcement position. District Security may consider training the right person.
