The Organ Placement Coordinator (OPC)- Night Shift: is responsible for maximizing the utilization of abdominal and research organs on local donors as well as import offers, and accepted import organs. OPCs are accountable for activities related to the allocation and utilization of organs from local donors. This includes, but is not limited to, receiving, inputting and evaluating all new organ-related referrals, inclusive of phone and electronic referrals, abdominal organ allocation for transplant and research, coordination of operating room timing, travel logistics, communication, and documentation.

Maintains in-depth knowledge of Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) policy and provides guidance to the team to ensure compliance.
Serves as the principal source of donor information throughout the allocation and procurement process to transplant centers, UNOS staff, and LiveOnNY Transplant Coordinators. Serves as the organ allocation expert and provides critical thinking and decision-making regarding allocation strategy to prevent organ loss in accordance with applicable laws, organizational policies, and national regulations.
Assists the Donor Center as needed, to take incoming calls, and enter referrals from our hospital partners and donor families.
Effectively and transparently communicates pertinent donor information to transplant programs to protect patient safety and maximize organ utilization.
Arranges ground and air transportation for recovery teams and develops case-specific transportation strategies to minimize organ ischemia time.
Facilitates import kidney and pancreas allocation in accordance with LiveOnNY and OPTN policies, organ, kidney, pancreas, lung and liver organ offers.
Coordinates transportation of blood, tissue typing materials and biopsies to laboratories.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biology or a health-related field is required
And/or Associate’s degree with one to three years related work experience
Excellent communication, computer and organizational skills required.
