Living Room

The Role
Living Room Studios is seeking a highly capable, detail-oriented Assistant Engineer to support world-class recording sessions at our premium boutique facility. The ideal candidate is technically proficient, client-conscious, and thrives in high-caliber studio environments. You’ll work directly under the Head Engineer and alongside studio leadership to ensure sessions are technically seamless, creatively empowered, and professionally run from setup to teardown.
This role demands deep knowledge of recording workflows, signal flow, and DAW operation, combined with a calm, communicative, and service-first mindset. You’re equally comfortable prepping a vocal chain, managing recall sheets, troubleshooting signal flow, or stepping into client-facing moments with confidence and discretion.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Session Prep and Technical Support
- Prepare studios for daily sessions based on engineer/producer preferences and technical specs.
- Patch gear, mic instruments, set levels, and verify signal flow integrity across all rooms.
- Ensure sessions start on time with fully functional equipment and accurate setups.
2. In-Session Engineering Support
- Assist lead engineers throughout sessions—managing DAW edits, punch-ins, session notes, and client needs.
- Maintain session documentation, labeling, backups, and accurate recall data.
- Troubleshoot technical issues quickly and communicate clearly with team members to resolve them.
3. Post-Session Duties
- Manage proper session breakdown, data backups, and studio resets.
- Archive sessions according to studio protocol, ensuring accurate data transfer and file organization.
- Coordinate with engineers, producers, and Studio Manager on session follow-ups, mix prep, and deliverables.
4. Gear & System Maintenance
- Monitor the condition of studio gear and flag issues to the Head Engineer or Studio Manager.
- Maintain cables, outboard gear, and studio computers in optimal working order.
- Assist in system updates, plugin management, and digital maintenance tasks as assigned.
5. Client and Team Coordination
- Provide top-tier hospitality and a calm, professional presence in client sessions.
- Communicate proactively with Studio Manager and engineering team around scheduling, session changes, and priorities.
- Represent the studio brand and uphold standards of excellence at all times.
- Strong technical knowledge of signal flow, microphones, outboard gear, and recording workflows.
- Proficiency with Pro Tools (primary), Logic Pro, and related plugins/signal chains.
- Prior experience in high-pressure studio environments, preferably assisting major-label or high-profile sessions.
- Clear communication skills — verbal and written — with an ability to receive and implement feedback quickly.
- Highly organized, self-directed, and meticulous about session documentation.
- Ability to work flexible, non-traditional hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
- Bonus: Familiarity with analog console operation, Dolby Atmos workflows, or live tracking sessions.
