What You'll Do
The Data Director will ensure organizational goals are met by providing support to all departments across the organization. The Data Director will work closely with management to create and develop projects that will move the organization in the right direction using a variety of tools to engage voters and our base. The Data Director will be responsible for creating dashboards and reports to gauge progress to goal, and deliver reports in group and individual settings. This position will also manage the data team and all of its data tools, external partner relations, and vendors.
Other responsibilities:
- Timely distribute business communications
- Develop departmental goals and objectives
- Oversee the collection, organization, and analysis of data to support program evaluation and reporting
- Oversee technical support and training to staff on tools to support canvassing, volunteer mobilization and organizing activities
- Develop both technical and end-user documentation for data processes
- Create lists and Virtual Phone Banks based on a set criteria
- Communicate with program managers for needs and reporting
- Onboard new staff to tools
- Develop and implement data management policies and procedures to ensure data quality and integrity
- Use SQL, Sheets, BigQuery, Looker and Periscope Data to create and present reports
- Host training sessions for staff to support development of data culture
- Support campaigns for the organization
- Protect the integrity of confidential information in all matters
- Develop training material for new data staff
- Oversee and train a data team
- Other duties as assigned
To succeed in this role, you need:
- Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience of at least 4 years experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired as necessary.
- Ability to take on projects related to organization with minimal oversight.
- Proficient in SQL, Google Sheets, data visualization, BigQuery, Looker Studio and similar tools.
- Ability to have a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail, clearly communicating status updates.
- Skilled in reviewing, screening, and prioritizing mail, email, and telephone calls.
- Must be proficient in the English language for both grammar and composition purposes and spelling to communicate effectively, to prepare reports, record minutes of meetings, and to compose routine correspondence and other directives.
- Experience working with all levels within an organization is preferred.
- Ability to work with and adapt to various personalities and all levels of personnel within the organization.
- Custom mapping using Periscope, Looker Studio, Carto or other similar tools.
- Proficient secretarial and analytical skills to include typing, filing, dictation, proofreading and editing correspondence, duplication equipment, and standard computer software programs, and electronic mail.
- Advanced proficiency in Google email and its applications, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint with intermediate Excel skills. Experience using a Mac or other Apple products is preferred, but not required
- At least 3 year experience working with Data collection tools like the Voter Activation Network (VAN) and/or EveryAction
- Strong computer skills
- Interest in and passion for supporting progressive politics
- Must maintain a high level of professionalism
- At least 2 years of experience managing a team
- Keen attention to detail with an understanding of how to find and fix errors
