Heavy Duty Mechanic
Department: Fleet FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
REPORTS TO: Director of Fleet Services
COMPENSATION: $26-$32
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Engine, hydraulic, differential, axle, transaxle, gearbox and transmission fluid changes, greasing bearings, pins and bushings, checking windshields, tires and engine coolant.
- Track service records of client’s vehicles and equipment.
- Perform annual coolant freeze point checks.
- Perform routine checks including exhaust systems, air filters, chassis components, brake systems, tire pressures, wheel bearings, fluid levels, ignitions, HVAC systems.
- Provide records of all work performed to Director of Fleet Services
- Full time, year round position with overtime
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License in good standing required. Commercial Driver’s License a plus
- Minimum 2 years experience or schooling through BOCES or similar educational certifications.
- NYS Inspector License a plus

- Ability to use various computer software programs once trained in proper use
- Ability to work under minimal direction.
- Ability to multitask and adapt to frequent change of priority.
- Must be able to take initiative to solve problems within established guidelines
- Must be flexible in changes to schedule, average of 55 - hour work week
- Must be qualified to operate a company vehicle
- Must have own tools
- Knowledge of the Rochester area a plus
