The Position
The Livingston County Department of Social Services is soliciting applications for a Social Services Attorney. The Social Services Attorney is responsible for providing legal counsel to the Livingston County Commissioner of Social Services (Commissioner) and department staff. Primary functions include: representing the Agency in family court proceedings as well as courts of general jurisdiction, collaborating with the management team regarding legal philosophy of the Department and developing Agency policies and procedures. The work is performed under the general direction of the Senior Social Services Attorney.
The incumbent will work closely with other members of the legal support staff and the administrative team for the purpose of work performance and short- and long-term planning and may be assigned additional functional areas. Supervision may be exercised over the work of subordinate employees.
Possession of a Juris Doctor degree. Candidates must be admitted to practice and in good standing as an attorney and counselor at law before the courts of the State of New York, a valid New York State driver’s license and maintenance of same throughout appointment, and an automobile which may be used to perform job responsibilities.
