What are the responsibilities and job description for the Building and Grounds Working Foreperson (Livingston County Residents Only) position at Livingston County?
This is a supervisory maintenance position involving responsibility for planning, supervising, overseeing, and participating in the maintenance and repair of buildings, building construction and renovation, support equipment maintenance and repair, and grounds maintenance. An employee in this class both supervises and participates in the work. The work is technical in nature and may include carpentry, plumbing, HVAC work, electrical work, masonry, painting, janitorial, and other maintenance work. The work is performed under the general direction of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds allowing for the exercise of independent judgment in scheduling work and supervising and directing subordinates. Supervision is exercised over the day-to-day activities of the assigned work unit and requires planning the efficient utilization of subordinate employees, facility support equipment and materials. Does related work as required.
1. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Construction Technology or a closely related area of study AND eight years of full-time, paid experience involving the construction and/or maintenance[1] of buildings and/or building equipment, four years of which shall have included responsibility for the supervision and direction of a work crew; OR,
2. Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma AND ten years of the experience described in paragraph 1 and four years of the supervisor experience described in paragraph 1; OR,
3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined in 1 and 2.
Buildings and Grounds Working Forepersons, NC in the County service
Person holding position must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 pounds, and possess a valid New York State Driver’s License at the time of appointment and must maintain said license throughout appointment.
- Oversees and carries out a program of maintenance and repairs for buildings, grounds and support equipment and operating systems;
- Supervises assigned personnel including, but not limited to, assigning and directing personnel, providing employee training, evaluating performance, addressing performance concerns and other related matters;
- Supervises and participates in the maintenance and repair of plumbing, electrical controls, HVAC, and other related electrical and mechanical equipment;
- Ensures proper environmental conditions by monitoring the computer based environmental control systems;
- Conducts periodic safety, security and performance inspections of the condition of buildings and equipment to ascertain maintenance needs;
- Supervises and/or takes part in the repair and maintenance of buildings including: painting, roofing, carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, and masonry;
- Estimates costs of maintenance and repair projects;
- Hires, monitors and directs outside contractors, ensuring that contracted services are provided;
- Works with County departments to identify buildings and grounds problems and ensure appropriate attention and resolution;
- Requisitions equipment and supplies in accordance with employer procedures;
- Maintains appropriate records on safety, security, and maintenance operations;
- Supervises and/or takes part in snow/ice removal operations at assigned locations;
- Maintains and supervises the maintenance of grounds;
- Utilizes computer equipment and software in the performance of job duties;
- May perform the duties of the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds in his/her absence;
- Performs other related duties.
