What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physician position at Livingston County?
This is responsible professional work calling for the services of a New York State licensed physician. Employees in this class perform medical services of a general or specialized nature. Work is outlined and reports are reviewed by the appropriate authority, but methods of execution are left to the discretion of the physician. Work activities may vary by department.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine; ability to get along well and work with others; thorough knowledge of public health issues and proper means of addressing same; ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing; conscientiousness and thoroughness; interest in maintaining a high standard of professional ethics; good motor, hand and eye coordination; sound professional judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.Graduation from an approved school of medicine.Eligibility for a license to practice medicine in New York State. Possession of a New York State license to practice medicine at time of appointment and maintenance of the license throughout appointment.
Physicians, part-time, Non-competitive in the County service
- Assists in developing and implementing policies concerning nursing care, admissions and discharge, medical records, utilization review, physician’s responsibilities for their patients, quality assurance, and other matters concerning patient care;
- May act as medical spokesperson for department;
- May examine, diagnose, recommend treatment, and treat patients;
- May authorize hospitalization, consultation with specialists, laboratory work, nursing care and other specialized treatment;
- May conduct diagnostic and preventative clinics;
- May perform employment physical examinations and make reports regarding such examinations to the Civil Service or appointing authorities;
- May perform laboratory tests to assist with diagnosis;
- Provides medical consulting services to the appointing authority;
- May review medical records to determine service eligibility and conduct further investigations regarding eligibility when necessary;
- Conducts health educational programs;
- May provide medical oversight for an advanced life support program;
- Prepares and provides reports as required;
- May administrate certain programs as directed by the department head;
- Participates in and/or chairs committees as requested by the department head;
- Acts as liaison between medical profession and department;
- Advises department head of the components of an employee health program; and
- Performs other related duties.
