Position Responsibilities

The Youth and Family Therapist has the responsibility to provide intensive, evidenced-based assessment and treatment intervention to all runaway, homeless, and at-risk youth and their families who enter and exit The Connection Youth Services’ Emergency Shelter, Street Outreach, and Transitional Living Programs. The Youth and Family Therapist is an essential part of The Connection Youth Services team that provides wraparound services to some of the most vulnerable youth in our community.


General Youth and Family Therapist Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and compliance with all LFC agency and TCYS program policies and procedures and privacy practices
  • Knowledge and compliance with all policies and procedures regarding client care, confidentiality, HIPAA, and the Michigan Mental Health Code
  • Commitment to professional, ethical practice as outlined in the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) or equivalent professional association
  • Maintain a client caseload with at least 60% of dedicated hours in client and family contact
  • Provide individual, group, and family counseling as appropriate
  • Provide crisis intervention and safety planning to youth and their families and/or natural support system
  • Complete biopsychosocial assessments and treatment plans for each client
  • Collaborate with human service providers, schools, natural supports, and other community based service providers to increase positive outcomes for youth
  • Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and promotion of an environment that is welcoming to all
  • Participate in the 24-hour line rotation to provide crisis intervention, referral information , and screening of potential TCYS clients
  • Participation in staff and supervision meetings
  • Completion of training requirements
  • Contribute to agency contract agreements as appropriate
  • Participation in community collaboration and workgroups as appropriate
  • Participation in agency fundraiser activities
  • Maintain general cleanliness, organization, and safety of facilities
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary by the Program Director, Executive Director, and/or Board of Directors


Data Responsibilities

  • Compliance with all paperwork and statistical reporting requirements and timelines
  • Maintain a clinical file for each client as required and within time requirement guidelines
  • Develop and maintain community-based resource file of various agencies and services that assist youth and families
  • Utilize clinical assessment tools to assist with the development and implementation of treatment plans, psychoeducation, and gauge treatment progress
  • Assist with developing support group curriculum; ensuring relevance and applicability
  • Compile any additional data to monitor and assess agency and runaway/homeless youth trends

 

Qualifications

The Youth and Family Therapist will be committed to promoting an inclusive work environment and positive team contribution. The preferred candidate will have:

  • Master’s Degree specializing in Psychology, Social Work, or Guidance and Counseling
  • Current full or limited State of Michigan licensure in good standing
  • Two years of experience working with youth and families; strong candidates will have experience working with at-risk youth populations
  • Candidate must successfully complete all required criminal checks and health screenings
  • Must be willing and able to work evening and weekend hours
