POSITION SUMMARY:
Organizes and conducts medically prescribed occupational therapy programs in the hospital, and outpatient clinic to restore function and prevent disability following disease, injury, or loss of a body part; helps patient reach his/her maximum performance and assume a place in society while learning to live within the limits of his/her capabilities. Understands and provides age-appropriate care to all ages from pediatric, adolescent, adult and for geriatric patients. Plan and administer medically prescribed occupational therapy treatment to restore function, relieve pain, to improve ability to perform activities of daily living, including use of adaptive devices as appropriate for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint and bone diseases.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & AUTHORITIES:
- Evaluates, records and reports on patient’s progress for review by other members of the rehabilitative team and to the referral source that provided the patient for treatment. Plans programs for each patient, involving exercise, modalities, and manual therapy. Evaluates and applies diagnostic, prognostic, and functional ability tests.
- Directs and aids patient in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, and gait and functional training, utilizing pulleys and weights, steps and inclined surfaces. Gives instruction in posture control and therapeutic procedures to be continued by the patient i.e., Home Exercise Program.
- Adapts conventional occupational therapy techniques to meet the needs of patients unable to comprehend verbal commands or voluntarily carry out a regimen of therapeutic exercises.
- Provides the appropriate supervision to the Occupational Therapist Assistant as required by licensure board.
- Maintain open communication with the Rehabilitation Team regarding patient’s performance/progress. Initiates and maintains communication with interdisciplinary team regarding patient’s progress, needs, and discharge planning.
- Exhibit positive attitude and behaviors facilitating team work, efficiency, and care quality and promoting a favorable unit and company image.
Position: Occupational Therapist
- Conducts or participates in training medical and nursing personnel and other workers in occupational therapy techniques and objectives. Must attend all mandatory in-services. Promotes and participates in performance improvement in-services.
- Responsible for filling out appropriate patient billing forms and progress notes sheets on a daily basis.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, ABILITIES):
Graduate of Accredited Occupational Therapy Program as an Occupational Therapist.
Two years experience preferred but will accept new graduates.
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, REGISTRATIONS, ETC.)
Licensed with the State of Kentucky to practice Occupational Therapy with an OT Degree and maintain eligibility for license renewal.
BLS CPR
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to lift, sit, stand, stoop and walk without restriction.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate-controlled department or patient room.
