Exceptional Center: Our Exceptional Center is a program for students in grades 1-12 diagnosed with down syndrome, autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, and cognitive and developmental delays. Our goal with this program is to develop independent functioning in real life skills and to prepare our students for entry into our transition program for ages 18-22.

(LSI) was founded in 2003 as an independent, non-profit, private school that specializes in educating and ministering to the needs of children with unique abilities and their families. Livingstone Academy serves students in grades K-12; providing a continuum of services based on the individual requirements of each student. We provide a positive learning environment for students with Specific Learning Disabilities, Autism, Asperger’s, Speech and Language disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and Cognitive and/or Developmental delays and intellectual disabilities. We are a school for students with learning disabilities.

Teaching Assistant
The Teaching Assistant is a great opportunity for anyone interested in gaining experience in the educational sector and, more importantly, anyone who enjoys spending time with students and making a difference in improving our students’ lives. This person provides full support to the Teacher and assists in all day-to-day classroom activities and student care. This role takes direction from the Teacher and is a significant contributor and steward to the overall classroom experience and culture.
Employment Status and Schedule:
This is a part-time, non-exempt position, with a 10-month term during the school year and a mutual offer with intent to return subsequent school years. The daily work schedule is typically 8:15AM until 3:00PM with a 30-minute non-paid lunch break. Some employees may work morning or aftercare if needed.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Instructional Support
Assist Teachers in academic, emotional, intellectual, and social development of our students.
Provide instruction, as planned by the Teacher, to small groups of students.
Supervise the classroom in the absence of the Teacher.
Classroom Management
Monitor and report/correct behavior and document and report problems with students per procedure.
Supervise non-academic activities such as physical education, recess, and bathroom and lunchroom duties, and assist with car line as discussed with the Teacher.
Support the Teacher in monitoring student progress and maintaining accurate records.
Administrative Tasks
Support the Teacher with administrative activities that may include grading papers, making copies, etc.
Prepare and organize classroom material and resources.
Help with the setup and cleanup of classroom activities and projects.
Provide simple daily housekeeping duties in the classroom.
Student Accommodations and Success
Provide one-on-one support to students as needed.
Foster a supportive and inclusive environment for all students.
Assist with social and emotional development of students.
Promote positive student interactions.
Attend all field trips.
Communication and Collaboration
Attend classroom meeting, held weekly with the Teacher.
Collaborate with other staff members to support student learning and school initiatives.
Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events as required.
Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
- Patience, compassion, and flexibility are a must to help our students with their personal challenges.
- High energy and the ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
- Consistent, reliable, and punctual attendance is essential.
- Provide a safe and engaging environment for all children in alignment with the school's employee and student handbooks.
- Must be available to be on campus during the scheduled work hours.
Education & Certifications:
A high school diploma, or equivalent, is required.
