Position Summary
The Running Backs Coach is responsible for the training, development, and performance of the team’s running backs. This role involves teaching fundamental skills, techniques, and strategies essential for running backs to excel in ball-handling, blocking, and route-running. The coach will collaborate closely with the offensive coordinator and other coaching staff to implement effective game plans that maximize the potential of the running back position.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Player Development:
Teach and reinforce fundamental techniques related to running back play, including ball security, footwork, vision, and blocking responsibilities.
Create individualized development plans for each person, focusing on their specific strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
Monitor player progress and adjust training techniques as necessary to enhance performance.
Game Preparation:
Develop and implement practice plans that focus on drills specific to running backs, including ball-handling, agility, and blocking techniques.
Analyze game film to evaluate the performance of running backs, identifying areas for improvement and tendencies of opposing defenses.
Assist in the preparation of game plans, including specific running plays and blocking assignments tailored to the opponent's defensive strategies.
Performance Analysis:
Utilize video analysis tools to assess running back performance in practices and games.
Track and analyze individual and team performance metrics to gauge effectiveness and identify areas for development.
Collaboration:
Work closely with the offensive coordinator to integrate running back strategies into the overall offensive game plan.
Collaborate with other positional coaches to ensure seamless communication and execution of offensive schemes.
Mentorship and Leadership:
Foster a positive and competitive environment that encourages teamwork and individual growth among running backs.
Serve as a mentor and role model for players, promoting discipline, accountability, and a strong work ethic.
Recruitment and Scouting:
Assist in scouting and evaluating potential recruits for the running back position, providing insights into player potential and fit within the program.
Administrative Duties:
Maintain accurate records of player performance, development, and progression.
Participate in staff meetings and contribute to discussions regarding team strategy and player development.
Skillset:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong leadership abilities with a focus on motivating and inspiring players.
Analytical mindset with a keen understanding of performance metrics and improvement strategies.
Ability to work collaboratively with other coaching staff and players.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to participate in practice and training sessions, demonstrating techniques as needed.
Capability to work long hours, including evenings and weekends during the season.

Education/ Experience
What you will need to be successful!
Bachelor’s degree in sports management, physical education, or a related field (preferred).
At least 1 year of experience
Previous coaching experience, particularly with running backs at high school, college, or professional level.
- Strong understanding of running back techniques, offensive schemes, and blocking assignments.
