Survey Party Chief

Grantham & Associates, an LJB Engineering Company, is a national, multi-disciplinary engineering consulting firm with four main business lines which include: Transportation, Land Development/Public Utilities, Buildings Structure Design and Safety/Fall Protection Design/Installation. Our diverse expertise, client base, and geographies have enabled LJB to serve clients in all 50 U.S. states and several countries.

We are currently seeking a candidate to fill a full-time Survey Party Chief position. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience and possess the professional and interpersonal skills to make a positive impact on our firm and the clients we serve. The successful candidate will possess a can-do attitude, have a passion for and take pride in their work, be a creative thinker, and have a willingness to collaborate while having the ability to work independently.

Pay: $20- 35 an hour, based upon experience, certifications, and regional market standards.

SURVEY PARTY CHIEF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Perform raw field survey data collection using a variety of modern technologies and techniques—such as topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layout/as-built surveys—while adhering to industry standards, client specifications, and internal quality benchmarks.
• Operate Trimble survey equipment such as data collectors, GNSS receivers, laser scanners, etc., and equipment from other manufacturers such as unmanned aerial systems.
• Utilize a Windows PC, Android data collector, and internet-based connectivity applications to transfer data to/from the field and office and maintain data records according to company standards.
• Safely operate a company owned or leased motor vehicle.
• Collaborate closely with office survey teams to review data collection methodologies, suggest improvements for data accuracy and clarity, and streamline the handoff of collected information—ultimately enhancing the reliability and usability of project inputs.
• Some overnight travel required.

SURVEY PARTY CHIEF ESSENTIAL CREDENTIALS:

Education:

• A high school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework a plus.
• A valid FAA Part 107 Certification, and as needed to support new sUAS regulations, is preferred.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience including 2 years’ experience as a Survey Party Chief required.
• Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Physical:

• Must be able to traverse worksite in different types of weather and conditions.
• Understands the exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
