Director of Electrical Engineering

Registration : Must be a licensed Professional Engineer
Level of Experience : Highly Experienced
Reports to : Director of Engineering
Level of Supervision : Works under minimal supervision from Senior Company Management
General Description :
- Expected to be an expert in his / her field.
- Has excellent understanding of how his / her discipline interacts within projects, company, and clients.
- Manages and coordinates activities of the department.
- Coordinates scheduling requirements of projects, assigns personnel, determines personnel needed with the most appropriate individual qualities.
- Ensures quality, accuracy, and completeness of departmental work, compliance with established standards, procedures, and codes, and that deadlines are met.
- Provides training, technical guidance, and instruction to personnel within the department.
- Reviews timesheets of department personnel.
- Manages hiring, performance appraisal, salary recommendations, and employee development.
- Develops departmental policies, technical standards, and procedures.
- Assists in development and coordination of interdepartmental policies, procedures, and standards.
- Is expected to function as Senior Engineer 6 as necessary to meet project requirements, project schedules, and company goals.
Communication Skills : Shall have excellent written and oral communication skills. Shall be able to make clear presentations to Clients and in-house groups. Shall be able to serve as company representative in meetings when requested.
Level of Judgement Regarding Projects and Design : Makes the final decision on most issues with guidance from Senior Management when necessary.
Management of Personnel : Supervises departmental staff. Makes project assignments and determines workload of staff.
Management of Projects : Can manage large and complex projects involving special skills and multi-disciplinary teams. Can manage multiple projects.
Mentoring : Assists in the education and development of design staff as well as act as a resource for design questions.
Client Relationship : Strong relationship with clients. Interacts with clients on a regular basis. Actively participates in business development.
