LOMA, the world's largest international research and education association for the life insurance and financial services industry, has an opening for an experienced writer. This role has a solid career path with defined opportunities for growth within 12 – 24 months.

 

Overview of Position:

The writer in this position works as part of a process-oriented development team, creating study aids, examinations, and assessments for LOMA's professional development courses. The writer also analyzes examinations to verify the quality of exam question development and edits course manuscripts and exam items developed by team members. The writer collaborates with other internal writers and online developers, as well as external subject matter experts and consultants, to ensure exam questions are of high quality and accurately represent industry-related situations and scenarios. These relationships require the writer to exhibit a very high degree of professionalism and diplomacy.

Major responsibilities:

  • Creates and supports the development of examinations for courses on life insurance and/or retirement-related topics delivered in a variety of testing formats.

  • Writes and edits study materials, including sample test questions and answer explanations, to help prepare learners for course exams.

  • Performs peer writer checking duties to ensure quality control and provides constructive feedback to staff-in-charge.

  • Recruits and manages panels of industry experts who review accuracy of examination content.

  • Reviews designation course content as it is developed to ensure that content achieves designed learning objectives and is adequately testable.

  • Supports and facilitates the translation of examination-related products into the various other languages in which they are offered.

  • Participates in research and analysis of subject fields related to LOMA educational programs and courses.

  • Represents the Professional Development Division and LOMA at meetings and other functions.

  • Successful completion of the FLMI or FSRI designation program within eighteen months of hire.

 

Candidate Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Outstanding writing/editing skills and analytical ability, as demonstrated by successful completion of one of LOMA's writing tests.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills including capacity to communicate effectively and tactfully with LOMA member companies, committee members, industry subject matter experts, and project team members. Ability to represent the Professional Development Division and LOMA at a variety of meetings and other functions.

  • Strong problem solving, decision making skills, and initiative.

  • Excellent time management skills, organization skills, and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Business experience in life insurance, retirement, or workplace benefits is preferred.
