Pay Range

182,310 - $231,180 Annually

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description

We have an opening for a Deputy Associate Program Leader (DAPL) in Nuclear Materials Baseline Operations . You will support the Associate Program Leader in managing projects integration, the Nondestructive Analysis Lab ("Count Lab"), Nuclear Materials Containers and Shipping, the Superblock Vaults, and MC&A inventory activities with the goal of maintaining operational readiness and ensuring the capable execution of projects. This role involves personnel management, including work delegation, goal setting, and providing feedback for individual growth. This position is in the Materials Science Division within the Physical & Life Sciences Directorate.

You will

  • Ensure programmatic objectives are achieved and are in full compliance with the ES&H Manual, the facility Design Safety Analysis (DSA) and Facility Safety Plan (FSP), and applicable Work Control Documents (WCDs).
  • Provide technical direction to the development of equipment and processes for complex and unique technical issues and exercise a high level of independent judgment and initiative in the development and deployment of innovative technologies.
  • Communicate project priorities, plan schedules, assess resource requirements, and oversee project development and maturity.
  • Use project management methods and tools to develop analytics and reporting criteria to ensure successful programmatic project execution.
  • Oversee the procurement, installation, and deployment of new capabilities.
  • Pursue proposed opportunities, plan schedules, assess resource requirements, and oversee project development and maturity, including all integration points in design and execution with the Nuclear Materials Program.
  • Ensure operational readiness and agility of the Nuclear Materials Program, including by building a system to manage the portfolio of capital equipment and critical capabilities.
  • Use project management methods and tools to develop analytics and reporting criteria to ensure successful programmatic project execution.
  • Manage personnel supporting Nondestructive Analysis, Containers & Shipping, Vaults, and MC&A Inventories while ensuring all applicable regulations are met.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency with SCI at the time of hire.
  • B.S. degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering, or related field or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Detailed understanding of DOE 474.2 compliance requirements, reporting requirements, and its implementation within nuclear facilities; Advanced knowledge of Materials Control & Accountability Principles and their applications.
  • Understanding of DOE Orders 460.1D, 461.1C, and 461.2 and DOE M 441.1-1 and their requirements for packaging and transportation.
  • Understanding of Type B and fissile material packaging and their use at LLNL including general knowledge of SARPs and content authorized by the CoC.
  • Understanding of nuclear materials management and DOE O 410.2 and its reporting requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of nondestructive analysis techniques used to characterize and quantify special nuclear materials.
  • Experience supporting staff with program placement, career development, performance management and assessments, and retention strategies.
  • Significant experience effectively mentoring, developing, leading, and managing multi-disciplinary project teams to meet deliverables.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to present, explain, and advise senior management.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Qualifications We Desire

  • M.S. degree in physical sciences or experience in related field.
  • Experience working in a nuclear materials program at a national laboratory.
  • Advanced knowledge of nondestructive analysis techniques used to characterize and quantify special nuclear materials.
