Job Description
We're looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to conduct research in particle and heavy-ion physics. The group participates in the ATLAS, sPHENIX and ePIC experiments. You will support LLNL's activities on sPHENIX, including commissioning, calibration and data analysis, and contributing to projects applying machine learning at the LHC. This position is in the Particle Physics group of the Nuclear and Chemical Sciences Division.
You will
- Formulate research proposals for external and internal sponsors.
- Contribute to the operation and data taking with sPHENIX.
- Assist in the development of new experimental capabilities for sPHENIX.
- Perform physics analysis of sPHENIX data.
- Contribute to ongoing projects applying machine learning methods to the LHC.
- Interact with the data scientists at the Laboratory to further the application of AI and ML techniques to nuclear and particle physics.
- Publish research results in peer-reviewed scientific or technical journals and present results and external conferences, seminars, and / or technical meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Information
This is a Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years, open to those who have been awarded a PhD at time of hire date.

Security Clearance

The restrictions of NDAA Section 3112 apply to this position. To be qualified for this position, Candidates must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112.
