JOB SUMMARY:    

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods to achieve optimum line balance and throughput.   Ensures manufacturing processes are in accordance with Ergonomic practices, meets product specifications and achieves quality standards. Recommend and implement improvements to production equipment, methods, and controls. The Engineering System Specialist is expected to inspire and lead their teams by setting the example and driving the 5 C’s (Care, Commit, Connect, Communicate, & Celebrate).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    Development and continuous improvement of Manufacturing Engineering processes and procedures.

    Follow up and monitor status of change control management process. (Manufacturing Change Notices) (RFC, Cn’s, MCN, PCN, etc.)

    Conduct and champion cross-functional team review of process Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (PFMEA) and design into each process provisions which prevent the potential for manufacturing problems.

    Utilizing the PFMEA to investigate complaints and engage the appropriate technical resources to determine root cause and define corrective actions to resolve the issue, verify implementation & effectiveness of the recommended corrective actions.

    Assist in monitoring containment corrective action timely completion.

    Interfaces with Novi Engineering and LM Quality/Production to ensure recommended action opportunities identified through Customer Corrective Actions/PFMEA are followed through and implemented in a timely manner.

    Utilizing the DFMEA/PFMEA/Chart Drawings/Control Plan to assess and evaluate manufacturing process to verify operator compliance to inspection requirements (ie. Functional and appearance) and identify improvements to enable defect prevention and variation reduction.

    Special projects as defined by Engineering Manager.

    Assist with evaluation and implementation of employee suggestions.

    Participates in plant safety, WCM, MPS & health and environmental programs.

    Actively participate in all Cost Reduction activities (Scrap, FTC, Continuous Improvements)

    Adhere strictly to all company safety procedures and to the occupational Health and Safety Act.

    Assist with the development of and adherence to QMS and EMS procedures and documentation.

    Develops and maintains process documentation including PFCs, JES (Job Element Sheets), PFMEA, and Work Instructions.

    Complete other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE:    

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Quality or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE:  

Minimum 5 years prior experience in the areas of high-volume assembly with engineering experience or equivalent, preferably acquired in the automotive industry.  University degree/college diploma or the successful completion of job-related courses.  Strong problem solving and statistical background from a manufacturing environment.  Must understand all phases of APQP and core skills including FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, PPAP and MSA.  Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft systems.  Continuous Improvement leadership training an asset. Must be able to work within a team environment with strong interpersonal abilities; have excellent organizational, communication and time management skills.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:   

    Working knowledge of kaizen and/or lean-manufacturing techniques.

    Superior verbal, written, and presentation skills required. 

    The ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to management, employees, corporate personnel, suppliers, and the customer is essential.

    Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

    Documentation and organization skills.

    Must be proficient with computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, and presentation software. 

    Possess analytical ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

    Provide leadership; develop professional attitudes and lead by example. 

    Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to establish good working relationships with employees, co-workers, management, and customers,

    Proficient with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  

    Working knowledge of AutoCAD.


WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL ABILITIES:  

Work performed in an office and manufacturing plant environments.  Normal mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amounts of work at a computer.  Frequently exposed to varying temperatures within plant depending upon external weather conditions.  Frequently walks, stands, grips/grasps, bends/stops, crouches; and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs within the manufacturing plant environment.
