Position Overview:

The Superintendent is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the daily operations and management of large-scale construction projects. This position demands a high level of expertise in construction management, excellent leadership abilities, and a deep understanding of safety protocols, quality control, and project scheduling. The superintendent is expected to ensure that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management:

  • Lead and manage all on-site construction activities, ensuring compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with project stakeholders, including owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Develop, update, and enforce project schedules, ensuring that all milestones and deadlines are met.
  • Monitor and control project costs, identifying potential risks and implementing mitigation strategies.

Leadership & Team Management:

  • Provide leadership and direction to the project team, including assistant superintendents, foremen, and other site personnel.
  • Mentor and develop junior team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among all team members, promoting a positive and productive work environment.

Quality Assurance & Control:

  • Implement and enforce rigorous quality control processes to ensure that all work meets or exceeds industry standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, identifying and addressing any issues or deviations from project plans.
  • Ensure that all materials and workmanship adhere to contractual and regulatory requirements.

Safety Management:

  • Champion a culture of safety on the construction site, ensuring that all team members and subcontractors adhere to company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and audits, identifying potential hazards and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
  • Respond promptly to any safety incidents, conducting thorough investigations and implementing measures to prevent recurrence.

Client Relations:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring that their needs and expectations are met throughout the project.
  • Provide regular updates to clients on project progress, addressing any concerns or changes in a timely manner.
  • Foster strong, long-term relationships with clients, contributing to the company’s reputation and repeat business.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management, with at least 3 years in a superintendent role.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large, complex construction projects from inception to completion.
  • Experience managing multi-family and/or residential construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, means and methods, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in construction management software and project scheduling tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera).
  • Ability to work under pressure, solve problems, and make decisions quickly and effectively.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification required; additional safety certifications a plus.

Working Conditions:

  • This role requires on-site presence at construction sites, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions and physical hazards.
  • Extended hours, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
