POSITION SUMMARY
The Le Moyne College Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP) is one of 51 STEP programs in New York State preparing historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students from Nottingham High School, Henninger High School, Syracuse Middle Schools and all of Onondaga County for college.
The Program Coordinator for STEP will support the Director and Academic Coordinator with day-to-day activities and management at each high school site, organize programmatic activities, and work closely with supervisors to achieve grant project outcomes. This position requires an outgoing, approachable and self-motivated individual with a passion for assisting high school students pursuing STEM pathways from underrepresented groups.
This is a part-time, 10-month position for after-school hours (Monday – Thursday, 12pm-4pm, September through June).
This position is a grant funded position. Renewal is based on funding being available from external sources and the performance review process by external sources and is
contingent on the continued receival of those funds.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Job duties specific to this position:
Assist in the recruitment and retention efforts for the STEP program within each high school by reviewing paper applications with applicants.
Responsible to ensure that required supplies are available at each school and communicate to Director/Coordinator when supplies need restocked.
Responsible for ensuring accurate documentation of contact and program activities by each student.
Communicate with guest speakers and other STEP stakeholders to support after school program planning.
Provide academic and professional counseling including assistance with short and long-range educational goals, college application process and employment applications; and identify students who require additional academic support services.
Staff the STEP space within the high schools ensuring that students are acting in a professional and respectful manner.
Motivate students collectively and individually to achieve academic success through encouraging, advising, and planning strategies, while supporting STEP philosophy and reflecting this in interactions with students.
Function as a student advocate in all interactions with parents/guardians and teachers.
Foster a program environment conducive to the academic, social, and personal development of students.
Support the STEP philosophy and reflecting this in his/her interaction with students, families, staff, the community of the host institution and the greater Syracuse community.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree is required.
Minimum of one (1) year related teaching - tutoring experience and/or administrative experience with a higher education opportunity program.
Demonstrated sensitivity to and experience with low-income, academic at-risk students.
Excellent written and communication skills.
This is a position includes 1-2 Saturdays per month.
Competence with basic Microsoft Office Suite skills and technology
